This tutorial will guide you in setting up Mail in OX X (10.4, Tiger). The steps and screenshots are exact for version 2.0.7, but will be very similar for other versions. |
The first time you open Mail, the Wizard will launch. If it doesn't, skip down to step 6.
- Launch Mail by selecting it from the Dock
- The Mail Wizard will launch if this is the first time you've used Mail. If the Wizard doesn't start automatically, click File and then Add Account. Click Continue to move on.
- Select POP as the Account Type. Enter an Account Description in the space provided – you can name it anything. Enter your name as you would like it to appear in your outgoing email messages in the Full Name field, and your email address in the Email Address field. Click Continue when you're ready to move on.
- Enter your Incoming Mail Server in the space provided. If you're unsure of your Incoming Mail server, please refer to your Internet Service Provider. If you have a broadband connection, you can check for your server name in the post titled Broadband ISP Email Server Settings. Then enter your User Name and Password in the appropriate fields.
- Enter your Outgoing Mail Server in the space provided. If you're unsure of your Outgoing Mail server, please refer to your Internet Service Provider. If you have a broadband connection, you can check for your server name in the post titled Broadband ISP Email Server Settings. Depending on your Internet Provider, you may or may not have to Use Authentication for sending mail – but almost all providers "support" outgoing authentication, so it's usually safe to check. You'll want to use the same User Name and Password that you used in the previous step. When you're ready, click Continue to move on.
- Review the settings on the Account Summary screen and click Continue if they're correct.
- Click Done to finish the Mail setup Wizard.
- Try sending an email to yourself to make sure it all worked – and have fun!
