If you’re tired of Windows constantly reminding you to turn on a Firewall or install Anti-Virus software, a few clicks can stop that pop-up notification from happening again.

annoying xp reminder

While a Firewall and/or Anti-Virus software is always a good idea to have installed on any PC running Windows XP, there are times when they may not be needed. Or perhaps you DO have a Firewall and Anti-Virus software installed but Windows doesn’t recognize it, and constantly nags you to install one. To stop those annoying reminders, follow the instructions outlined below..

  1. Navigate to the Control Panel and select Security Center
  2. Click the Recommendations button for Firewall or Virus Protection
  3. Place a check in the box labeled I have a firewall solution that I’ll monitor myself, and then click OK
  4. The status will change to NOT MONITORED. Repeat the above steps to disable reminders for Virus Protection.

    Thanks for this, but…

What’s the solution for Vista and the User Account Control? I don’t want to be repeatedly told to turn this on, but the solution above only works for the firewall etc. Any clues?

    Great site, thanks!
