Great guide, thanks for posting it!

  • Rick Beardslee

How do I get a password from the modem supplier?

  • Walt Powis, Sr.

    Hi Rick,
The address to the Ambit Model #U10C018 is http://192.168.100.1 and the default User Name and Password is user. Let me know when you get this email.
    Walt

    Hello Walt
I have a small problem. I have bought my wife a new Dell Lap top PC and I do not know what the Ambit Cable Modem Model # Uioc018 passphrase or Secutity Key is. I have typed in the defalt “USER” but it still does not except it. I am also running my main unit from it by way of a cable and also my wifes older E Machine Lap top is wireless. Where do I go from hear?

    Thanks for your support

  • Walt Powis, Sr.

    Hi Roger,
I seem to remember that one of the other “user name” defaults is “root” without the ” “. Try the “user” and “root” in all the combinations and see if it will open it.
    Walt

  • Stacy

    Try the following.
    Username: Admin
    Password: cableroot

  • Rob M.

Stacy’s Username & PW worked on mine but it’s no different than using the default user Userna,e & PW cept that you can restore the unit to Factory Default. Is there a way to actually make changes to the firmware, as in a Linksys Router?

  • http://www.simplehelp.net Ross McKillop

    Rob -

Correct, re: user/pass. No, you cannot (typically – not always) modify the firmware. Those are changes that are pushed by your cable company to the modem. Rarely will they push down a new firmware unless there’s a change that benefits them, or they’re rolling out a new service that requires an updated firmware.

I got a U10C018 from the cable company and use Road Runner to game online. I am finding that first thing in the morning, my Xbox plays correctly. But after 20-45 minutes, there is lag. The U10 unit gets very hot. So I experimented and place a pencil under the unit to facilitate airflow thru the vents. This seems to have helped. Is there a aftermarket cooler or fan for this item?

  • imajuggalo

? do you have it connected too a router after the ambit or no if you do the best thing id suggest is walmart and get a laptop cooling pad put your ambit routers and x box on top tht i might not b the ambit mind you keep in mind the x box is a computer techichly shoved in tht tiny space so i bet the air flow is minimal for it also so id cool all with a laptop cooling fan

  • Sandy

    Hi
I have a question regarding this router (ambit u10c018)
Can you plug it to a “bridge” router (5 ports switch) so you can have internet in 5 computers through network?
even though my internet provider told me I have service for one line only….
Im a little sonfised about this…..
Thank you so much for your advised!

  • Azteka

    I mean confused!

  • JB

Have the Ambit Model U10C018 – cannot connect to the internet. The “Send” light never starts flashing. Have rebooted countless times, both modem and computer. Have replace Ethernet card, checked cables, still no response. Have Suddenlink as cable provider, their cable guy’s response was basically “duuuhhh, must be sumptin wrong with your computer”. Would this problem be with the modem or something wrong in the computer. Windows 98.

  • imajuggalo

JB is it recieveing light coming on what lights are on exactly ?

  • JB

    imajuggalo says

JB is it recieveing light coming on what lights are on exactly ?

Yes – all lights working except send. (usb is not used). Enet, sync, power, ready and receiving light all working.

Update on above: Older homes will often NOT have proper splitters or cables for carrying todays signals. This was the problem I was having. It wasn’t the computer or the modem, Suddenlink sent different service man – this one knew what he was doing. Found and cured the problem by putting new splitter in outside box plus new cables, new splitter in the attic (110 degrees outside) and then run a dedicated line to the computer. Test signal and all inside splitters in the house, all were way below needed levels. Dedicated cable cured the problem. Internet has been fine since then. Thanks to all for your help.

My “old” modem started dropping the cable signal, so I exchanged with Time Warner, and they gave me this Ambit. The funny thing is that it works fine with a Windows 7 desktop, but does not work with the Windows 7 desktop through my router; there was no problem of this sort with the old modem. Also, the Ambit does not work with my Windows XP laptop when I plug the laptop directly into the modem. (By “not work” I mean can’t get internet access.) This is puzzling as I’ve never seen the behavior with vrius other modems, routers, and PCs. Any suggestions?

  • DAG

To answer my own question: I first turned both the modem and the router off. Then I turned the router on followed by the modem a minute or so later. This did not work, but turning the router off and on again while the modem remained on did the trick. I’m certain I had power-cycled the router while the modem was on a few times before, and it did not work. I don’t know why this time was different unless I simply didn’t wait long enough for everything to sync up.

  • Ben

I recently got my broadband hooked up again and Comcast gave this modem Ambit U10C018 which is a lot slower than what I use to have several months ago. Last time I had a Motorola surfboard I think and it’s speed was good. I pay for the basic 4 Mbps service but various speed test state I’m only getting 1.42 Mbps downstream. Is it because of this modem? Would trading it for another newer modem help?

  • Steve

I accidently enabled the router function through the menu and can’t access the Internet now.

  • Rex Sindt

We are having several issuesand don’t know where to start. Our cable is with charter;both internet and tv. We are running through the router to a wireless modem.
when we use our laptops and it llok for singals in reach we will get 2 of our signals, one labeled guest and it always has more strenght. We would like to eliiminate the guest . Also we have wireless home theater and it keeps dropping programs in the middle of shows and sometimes wont pick up internet again. sometimes we can turm off modem and router and turn them back on and they will work some times not. We think if the guest signal was eliminated we would have a stronger signal. will that help and can you tell us how to accomplish this. Rex

    I have U10C018.43 LF.

    1. Is the information regarding the enet light (ethernet) correct? Another web site said that this light should remain on all the time. If its blinking it means that your computer is not communicationing with modem through ethernet. The description above states completely different – blinking indicates that its transmitting data.

I’ve never had the enet light blink until the last month or so and I am getting low dial up speeds, which seem to indicate that if it blinks it means it is not working correctly.

    2. I was able to access the modem settings, but there is no factory reset. Also it says security s disabled. Why on earth would a cable firm give a modem on which you cannot enable secuirty? The only adminitration tool in the modem is for changing your password.

    3. It appears the company has changed it name to ubeeinteractive. It also appears they do not offer any support as when you look at their support page for this modem you can download a data sheet which is nothin gmore than a pdf document that list the items specs. LOL, specs ARE NOT support, trouble shooting, or anything that might help you.

I have a Ambit U10C018 Cable Modem I got while I was in North Carolina. I was trying to use it in Olympia, WA, through Comcast and Comcast said I was unable to use it until it was “released”. I was able to use it in California but not here. The Serial # is 100181100097387. I do not know who to contact to get it “released”. Are you able to do this? If not, who should I contact. Please let me know using my hotmail account – jstewper.

  • LMAO

Ya you should just discontinue your service and sell or give your computer away. “I’ve never had the enet light blink until the last month or so and I am getting low dial up speeds, which seem to indicate that if it blinks it means it is not working correctly.” uhhhhh what? Dial-up speeds? R u serious?

#1 Why on earth do you think you have dial up service running through a cable modem? Do you see a phone line running to the phone jack in the wall from it? I don’t even think these an provider out there that offers dial up service for general internet use anymore. That’s called a cable modem that provides internet service called broadband internet. No dial tone needed. Something that became widely popular oh about 14 years ago.

#2 That light has always flashed when connected properly to your computer and your computer turned on. I don’t care what you say its always flashed!

    Light off = No connectivity
Light flashing = the modem is talking with the computer/router
Light on and not flashing = you might have an issue as me personally working with high speed internet for the past 14 years have never seen a light for this purpose be solid. Its there to let you know the two are talking to each other. Now I know your comment is 2 years old and hopefully you have learned more about high speed internet and no longer call it “dial-up” but if not the ya Just cancel your service today and get rid of your computer.
