How to change the default screenshot format (jpg) in OS X

The short answer is to download and install Deeper. Once it’s installed, follow the steps outlined below.

  1. Launch Deeper and select General
  2. Select the format for your screenshots from the Format Screen Capture: drop-down list
  3. And now when you take screenshots using Apple Key-Shift-3 and/or Apple Key-Shift-4, they’ll be saved in the format you specified.
