How to enable spell check in Firefox text forms

This brief tutorial will show you how to enable spell check in web page forms (text input fields) in Firefox.

  1. Start by entering about:config in the Firefox address bar (without the http://)
  2. In the Filter: field, enter layout.spellcheck to bring up the layout.spellcheckDefault preference.

  3. Double-click that entry and change the integer value from 1 to 2 and click OK.

  5. Open a new browser window or tab (or refresh an existing one) and test it out.

    If you’re an OS X user, persdict.dat is in:

    /Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/xxxxxxxx.default/persdict.dat

    If you don’t want to enable it globally, you can just right-click a text field and have Fx spellcheck it.
