My Apple Menu Bar

As a part of the Lifehacker Show Your Menu Bar post, I’m posting my OS X menu but with a few more details than I’ll send to LH (mostly because it involves deep linking to other content here on Simplehelp).


  1. VirtueDesktops
  2. Until Leopard comes out w/ Spaces, VirtueDesktops terribly helpful if you have a lot of open apps at any given time. How to turn your MacBook or MacBook Pro into a SmackBook

  10. It’s cheaper than Synergy and uses Growl. How to set up and use Growl (and Growltunes)

  11. InstantShot
  12. Still my favorite screenshot utility for OS X. InstantShot home page

  13. ScrobblePod
  14. Light, functional, free.. 11k tracks and counting. Top 10 iTunes addons and plugins

  15. Google Desktop Search
  16. It comes in handy but I have to admit it can be awful slow. And I think of all the apps I have running all the time, it crashes the most frequently. And I’m a Google fan.

  17. Google Calendar Notifier
  18. Like I said, Google fan.

  19. Gmail Notifier
  20. See above.

  21. fmenu
  22. Yeah I’ll admit it, Facebook is one of my vices. An introduction to fmenu - an OS X app for Facebook addicts.

  23. Mozy
  24. Full system crash? Everything important is backed up thanks to Mozy. How to backup your files online for free with Mozy

  25. Bluetooth
  26. Mostly because I have a Bluetooth phone that I’m doing a lot of testing with.

  27. Display Preferences
  28. MacBook Pro hooked up to an external LCD monitor. But I use both screens. Combined with VirtueDesktops makes for a lot of desktops.

  29. Wireless
  30. Wireless off, wireless on. Wireless off, wireless on.

  31. Volume
  32. Volume up, volume down, volume up, neighbors complain volume down.

  33. Battery
  34. Sigh. It sure doesn’t last like it used to.

  35. Oh Canada
  36. My home and native land.

  37. Day and Time
  38. When you work from home, sometimes the days just blur together.

  39. Spotlight
  40. Most rarely used item in my menu.

    Jeez, that’s a lot of icons. On my menubar I have SMARTreporter, wakoopa, the external screen, and the regular apple stuff.
