PTHPasteboard, a free version of “PTHPasteboard PRO”, watches you while you work and keeps a copy of any items that you have copied to your ‘pasteboard’. Then you can quickly retrieve items from your pasteboard to reuse.
- To get started, download a copy of PTHPasteboard. Open the .dmg file and you’ll be presented with the ‘install’ screen. Double-click the PTHPasteboard.prefPane file in the middle.
- After it installs, your System Preferences will probably open and PTHPasteboard will launch. Click the Start PTHPasteboard button to start it. If you decide you really like it, you can come back later and place a check in the Start at Login box.
- As soon as PTHPasteboard starts, a ‘pasteboard’ will appear. If you have anything currently in your clipboard (text, a file/folder) it will be displayed.
- Now copy something else (just pick a random file)
- And that file will show up at the top of your pasteboard.
- Select the Pasteboards tab from the PTHPasteboard preferences. From here you can customize most of the aspects of your pasteboard(s). Removing the checks from Always show window and Keep window on top is something you may want to consider after you’ve used the program for a while.
- Select the Hot Key tab. From here you can set keyboard shortcuts to various PTHPasteboard actions. I created a shortcut to bring up the main pasteboard (see example screenshot below).
The ability to add filters and sync pasteboards across multiple computers is only included in the Pro version. Select the Register tab…
- and you can actually request a temporary serial number by clicking the Demo… button. That way you can try out the Filter and Sync features before you decide to buy.
- To remove items from your pasteboard, right-click (ctrl-click) the item and select Delete Item. Or, to wipe out the entire pasteboard, click the eraser icon.
- You can also bring up the pasteboard by clicking the new icon in your menu bar.
- And finally - if you ever need to access the PTHPasteboard preferences or settings - you can find them in the Other section of the System Preferences.
