How to use CyberDuck to FTP files in OS X

Mac

This overview will explain how to use CyberDuck – a free FTP client for OS X.

  1. Start by downloading CyberDuck. Open the .dmg file once the download has completed, and drag CyberDuck to your Applications folder to install it. Once it’s installed, launch it from your Applications.

  5. Enter the Server name in the space provided. The server name is usually provided to you by whomever created your FTP account. The default Port for FTP is 21, so leave that setting unless you’re sure your account is on a different port. Now enter your Username and Password in the spaces provided. Again, these are usually provided to you by whomever created the account for you. When all of that information is in place, click the Connect button.

  7. And now you’ll connect to your FTP server. The window may be blank or empty if you’ve never uploaded any files or folders.

  15. To upload files, locate them in your Finder, select the ones you want to upload, and then drag them to the main CyberDuck window.

  17. Once the upload has completed, the window will refresh and your files will be listed.

  21. If you want to save the FTP server information (so you don’t have to enter it every time you want to connect to it) – click the Bookmarks button.

Re: instructions, it says here “Enter the Server name in the space provided. The server name is usually provided to you by whomever created your FTP account.” If a third party has not created an FTP account as suggested, how does one get a server name?
    Thanks, NF

    please help.
I’m using cyberduck, have my files in the window, connection to the ftp server alive and kicking
I can’t get the darn thing to publish to my website, however
and am tearing my hair out.
    thanks in anticipation

The directions are too advanced, assuming prior knowledge

I have been trying to upload a page I made in iWeb. It doesn’t work. The page is saved as a folder. That wouldn’t upload. I selected all the file contents. That wouldn’t upload.

I like the idea of Open Source. It’s very nice. But for us novices, maybe a bought application would be better. Open isn’t very open if one can’t get in.

I will donate as soon as it works.

    Hola,
Encontré este tuto de Cyberduck y aquí va mi duda:
¿Cómo puedo exportar mis favoritos de Cyberduck a otro equipo?
Ya que tengo tantas conexiones que no me imagino rellenandolas otra vez a mano.

    Gracias.

When I change a page/text on our website via Taco HTML Edit it shows the text I changed accurately in the “Preview Code in Browser” window, but when I actually upload the file via CyberDuck it tells me that “Download Complete,” but the changes aren’t there – the text remains the same. What is the problem?
