Sequential – a better image viewer for OS X

Mac

Sequential is a free image viewer for Mac OS X. It was originally designed for opening a folder of images and displaying them in order. It works well for viewing comics. Sequential can display folders and archives (ZIP, RAR, CBZ and CBR) of images (including JPEG, PNG, and GIF) and PDF files. Keep reading for a brief overview.

There’s nothing wrong with Preview, and Quick Look is handy, but when it comes to features, Sequential has them both beat, hands down. While giving Sequential a try, it didn’t take long for me to change file associations for all my images so that they open with it instead of Preview.

  1. After opening an image, Sequential scans the rest of the directory and allows you to quickly scroll through them as well. Click anywhere on the picture and Sequential will move to the next one (or use one of the keyboard shortcuts, scroll to the end of this post for the full list).

  3. The top frame of Sequential displays the folder name and current image number of the total images in that folder (eg. 2 of 9).

  4. click to enlarge

  5. You can jump to any image in the folder by using the Page drop-down list.
  6. There are a number of sorting options available via the Sort drop-down list.
  7. And images can be sized in various ways by using the Scale drop-down list.
  8. Select Sequential -> Preferences to change some of the default options to best suit your needs.

  9. click to enlarge
