This tutorial will guide you through the steps to jailbreak your first generation iPod Touch running the 2.1 firmware, in OS X. NOTE: this will not work on the new 2nd generation iPod Touch devices.
- First things first, download QuickPwn 1.1. Open the .dmg file and drag it to your Applications folder (or Desktop). Do not run the file from inside the .dmg.
- Run QuickPwn, and click OK to agree to the warning message.
- Connect your iPod Touch when prompted.
- Decide if you’d like to change the boot and restore logos (I opted for yes).
- QuickPwn will search your drive for the correct file, and then build a new IPSW for you. This can take a minute or two.
- During the process you’ll be prompted to enter your password.
- Next you’ll be prompted to power off your iPod Touch. Hold down the Power button, and then “swipe” the slide to power off arrow at the top of your iPod Touch screen
- Now you’ll be prompted to hold down the Power button and the Home button at the same time. Then you’ll be prompted to let go of one button and continue to hold the other. Follow the instructions carefully.
- If you didn’t manage to hold and hold/release the buttons at the right time(s), you’ll be presented with a “Failed to enter DFU mode”. From here, just click Yes to try again.
- Once you get it correctly, QuickPwn will do its thing and jailbreak your iPod Touch.
- Now that the files have been uploaded to your iPod Touch, it will reboot itself. Give it time to power back on.
- You’ll be presented with a “success” screen, possibly before your iPod Touch has finished booting. Allow it to completely start up before you exit QuickPwn.
- Once your iPod has completely started up, you’ll notice 2 new icons on your Springboard – Cydia and Installer. Use those apps to install software etc on your newly jailbroken iPod Touch.

If you ordered one of the new, second generation ipod touch’s, no, don’t bother to try and jailbreak it, it won’t work (yet).

I just performed the all of the steps above on my iPod Touch (1st Generation) and it’s been over an hour now and all I get is a “pineapple” screen. It won’t even let me turn the unit off.

1) Connecter l’iPod éteint à l’ordinateur en USB
2) Presser simultanément le bouton allumer (en haut) et le bouton de retour à l’accueil. Quand la pomme apparaît sur l’écran, relâcher le bouton allumer en maintenant l’autre.
3 Une image montrant le câble USB et l’icone iTunes devrait apparaitre.
4) Relachez et lancez iTunes. Celui-ci devrait détecter un iPod en mode restauration et vous proposer de restaurer son firmware.
Acceptez et le tour est joué, mais attention : vous perdrez votre musique, vos vidéos et vos photos.
Si ca ne marche pas et qu’iTunes retourne un message d’erreur comme :
“Le logiciel requis pour l’iPod n’est pas installé. Exécuter le programme d’installation d’iTunes pour désinstaller et réinstaller iTunes”,
ne paniquez pas ! Commencez par éteindre l’iPod, puis désinstallez complètement iTunes. Redémarrez votre PC et réinstallez iTunes, puis rallumez l’iPod en suivant la méthode décrite plus haut.
2nde solution :
Si vous disposez de 2 ordinateurs, branchez votre iTouch / iPhone sur le second et vous pourrez directement restaurer (Un téléchargement de 150,6Mo sera effectué en une dizaine de minutes +/-).

it messed up my ipod touch but there is a way to fix it if that does happen.

Guys..I have tried this 2 times..1 time with the new graphics and one with the old ones..my ipod gets to the last step and is loading but it wont load….and when i plug it into itunes it doesnt recognize it…so i cant restore..and that restore trick wont work….

Ok, so after I clicked on download quickpwn..I hit the problem! Ok, so when after I d/led it, I tried to open it. But I couldnt! My mac asked me open with what application..and I have NO IDEA!! After I d/l it it, it just goes into my downloads window. How do I get it in my applications folder..?!…HELP!!!
