Using the Firefox Addon - User Agent Switcher

by Ken Murray on November 6, 2008

Firefox

I’m not a Windows user, so I’m not an Internet Explorer user. I have a Hotmail account just so I can chat with friends who only use MSN Messenger. Some of these friends feel the need to send email to my Hotmail account rather than my Gmail account so I do log in to check it now and again. Of course, I’m using Firefox on Linux, so things should work just fine, right? Not entirely. [click to continue...]

How to quickly open multiple links in multiple tabs

by Ken Murray on October 23, 2008

Firefox

This has got to be one of the most useful Firefox extensions I have ever seen. No more clicking links one by one and selecting Open Link in New Tab. Snap Links allows you to draw a box around the all the links you wish to open and have them open in multiple tabs all at once. [click to continue...]

How to move your Sidebar to the right side of Firefox

by Ross McKillop on September 4, 2008

Firefox

I’ve often wondered why the Firefox Sidebar was placed on the left side. I personally find that it distracts my focus while browsing when placed on the left. Using the addon RightBar, the Sidebar will be moved to the right side of Firefox. Just install it, restart Firefox, and open the Sidebar. Instead of appearing on the left, it’ll be on the right. That’s it!

5 Firefox Addons for the Average Web Developer

by Ross McKillop on August 18, 2008

Firefox Web Design & Dev

You won’t find any super-advanced addons for “extracting strings from xml and javascript files to simplify mozilla application localization process” or “debug running applets and Java Webstart application” in this list. These addons are intended for “the rest of us” - people who grudgingly have to edit our own web sites. [click to continue...]

How to increase the number of tabs Firefox displays

by Ross McKillop on July 2, 2008

Firefox

One of my (very few) frustrations with Firefox is that by default, you can only open a handful of tabs before you have to use the scroll button to access them. Using this quick about:config change you can alter the size (width) of your Firefox tabs, allowing for more to display before you have to start scrolling. [click to continue...]

How to revert to the Firefox 2 autocomplete location bar settings in Firefox 3

by Ross McKillop on June 18, 2008

Firefox

As a part of Firefox 3, the Location Bar got a few upgrades. One of them is that it now uses a XUL richlistbox widget for the auto-complete dropdown. This means that typing in the Location Bar will now search not only URLs, but page titles, bookmark names, and tags. A drawback to this new feature is that if you start typing something like ebay in your Location Bar, the things like thepiratebay will show up (assuming you’ve visited that site, have it bookmarked or its title is in the URL you’ve previously visited. While many folks (myself included) like this feature, some do not. This brief tutorial will show you how to disable that feature.

As you likely know by now, Google has updated their favicon.ico from the boxed G (old google favicon)to a lower case (with no box) g (new google favicon). However, Firefox continues to use the old icon in the search bar.

How to revert to the “old” Google favicon

by Ross McKillop on May 30, 2008

Firefox

Google recently changed their favicon.ico from the ever familiar boxed G, to a smaller g. If you’re not a big fan of the new icon, you can install this Greasemonkey script and pretend the change never happened. You will of course need to be using Firefox (or Safari) as your browser to use Greasemonkey scripts.
