I’m going to show you how to tether your N95 to your laptop via Bluetooth the quick and dirty command line way, as well as the prettier GUI way. In these examples I am running Fedora 9 and Gnome. A look at the Instantbird Beta
So, I’m trying two new things with this post. The first is writing it as I’m looking into this application, and the second is actually using the application. It’s Instantbird, a cross-platform instant messenger built on Pidgin and Mozilla. It should be noted that this is far away from a stable release. [click to continue...]

Generating an RSA key pair for use with PuTTY on the N95
As I started my tutorial on adding fonts to PuTTY on the N95, I very quickly decided that having to enter a user name and password every time I logged in was taking too long. So I generated an RSA key pair with a blank pass phrase just to save time. Don’t worry, of course I deleted the key pair as soon as I was finished. The last thing I need is to lose my phone and have some stranger logging into my server!
Note: this procedure is not specific to just the N95, nor is it only specific to Linux. I use Linux in my examples because I’m not a Windows user. The procedure described below on how to generate RSA keys can be adapted to puttygen.exe on Windows. [click to continue...]

How to install Ubuntu Eee 8.04.1 on your Eee PC
Yes, I previously wrote a tutorial covering how to install Ubuntu 8.04 on your Eee PC. Since then, a new version of “Ubuntu Eee” has been released, 8.04.1. One my favorite new features is that Netbook Remix is now installed by default. So rather than have to install Ubuntu Eee and then Netbook Remix, you can just install this updated version and it’s all done at the same time. [click to continue...]

How to right-click using just your trackpad in Bootcamp, Parallels and VMware (OS X)
There’s a well known feature/trick that allows you to right-click using just your trackpad in OS X. What’s slightly lesser known is that the same trick can be extended to XP and Vista running via BootCamp, or guest Operating Systems running in Parallels or VMware Fusion.
- For Operating Systems running on your Mac via BootCamp, all you have to do is place two fingers on the trackpad, and click the button. That will bring up the right-click menu.
- For guest Operating Systems running in Parallels or VMware Fusion, open the OS X System Preferences and select Keyboard & Mouse. Place a check in the box labeled For secondary clicks, place two fingers on the trackpad then click the button.
- Now when you’re running a guest OS in VMware Fusion, you can right-click by placing two fingers on the trackpad and clicking the button once.
- Same thing for Operating Systems running in Parallels.

How to use your Home folder as your Desktop in Ubuntu
If you’re at all like me, your desktop can become rather cluttered with files over time. One way to at least have files stored in your /home folder rather than your /home/Desktop folder is to set your /home folder as your actual Desktop. This is particularly helpful if you use a separate larger drive as your /home folder. [click to continue...]
