How to revert to the “old” Google favicon

by Ross McKillop on May 30, 2008

Firefox

Google recently changed their favicon.ico from the ever familiar boxed G, to a smaller g. If you’re not a big fan of the new icon, you can install this Greasemonkey script and pretend the change never happened. You will of course need to be using Firefox (or Safari) as your browser to use Greasemonkey scripts.

The concept is good but I love the new favicon. When I had installed Google applications in my smartphone, google icon was the only thing that looked out of the place. Good that they are trying to keep with the latest in every small thing.

How about something that’s not so geeky, “Lolz it’s 2050 and I have google’s old favicon!”

How about: how do I change my Google search in firefox to the “new” Google favicon?

I don’t like the old one at all, and I would like to change it on the search bar - or should I just wait until someone updates it?

“When I had installed Google applications in my smartphone, google icon was the only thing that looked out of the place”

… well, that’s precisely what made the old favicon SOOOOO recognizable at first sight.
Too bad the marketing guys didn’t take that into account, preferring to ape the allegedly “humble” small-case trend of all these interchangeable web2.0 apps…
