Email Virus Warning: That Greeting Card isn't from Mom

Email Security

From this Washington Post article:

Internet spammers launched a widespread attack on e-mail inboxes this month. But instead of trying to lure users into opening a corrupted attachment, they’re concealing a computer virus in a link to an online greeting card.

In most cases, the subject line informs recipients that they’ve received a greeting card or a postcard from a “friend,” “family member,” “worshipper,” “school-mate” or “neighbour.” When the e-mail is opened, there’s a link to a Web site that uploads a virus to the recipient’s computer.

I’ve received about 40 of them over the last week.

Simplehelp Updates

As you may have noticed, Simplehelp has been ‘down’ much more often lately than I’d like. It all relates to my previous host disabling me, moving to a new host, being on the front page of digg when the (new) server wasn’t ready for it, and the lack of a wp-cache plugin. Anyway – that’s all fixed now (in theory). This post has an actual intent too – to push the changes made by the Full Text Feed plugin live (after WP 2.1 feeds are cut off if you use the <!–more–> tag, which is annoying if you want to allow RSS subscribers to read the full text of your post, which I do).

10 (more) Windows Explorer alternatives compared and reviewed

Windows

Hi digg visitors. I have recently moved from shared hosting to dedicated hosting, and it would appear that I picked a server that doesn’t have enough memory and a fast enough CPU. I’ll be upgrading later this weekend. Sorry for the inconvience, I assure you this is frustrating me more than you :)

In October of last year I wrote 15 Windows Explorer alternatives compared and reviewed – which was quite popular. To this day I get people emailing me or leaving comments on the original post suggesting I try out other Windows Explorer/file managers alternatives. An introduction to Yahoo Pipes

Yahoo describes Pipes as “an interactive data aggregator and manipulator that lets you mashup your favorite online data sources”. Alright, but what does that mean to the rest of us? Yahoo Pipes uses an easy-to-understand visual editor that allows you to (among other things) take multiple RSS feeds, combine and filter them, and then output all of that information to one RSS feed.

This tutorial will take you through the steps to filter the content of one RSS feed (Techmeme) so that content you may have already read isn’t included in your Techmeme feed. Continued…
