How to install IE 5, 5.5, 6 and 7 in OS X

Using the package WineBottler you can install and use IE 5, 5.5, 6, 7 or 8 (though it’s in beta) while running OS X. This tutorial assumes you have X11 installed on your Mac – if you’re using Leopard, it’s installed by default. If you’re using Tiger, you can find the installation instructions here.

  1. The steps to this tutorial are no longer up to date. To install IE 6, 7 or 8 (though I can’t get 8 to work) – try WineBottler.

Why anyone would want to install IE on any Mac is beyond me.

Web designers and developers. Sadly they still have to keep IE in mind when designing and creating web sites.

Need some help here. I keep getting this when I try to install in Leopard 10.5.4

IEs4Linux 2 is developed to be used with recent Wine versions (0.9.x). It seems that you are using an old version. It’s recommended that you update your wine to the latest version (Go to:

    # IEs4Mac will:
    – Install Internet Explorers: 6.0
    – Using IE locale: EN-US
    – Install MS Core Fonts
    – Install everything at: /Users/Mark/Applications/IEs 4 Mac/.ies4mac
    [ OK ]

    # Downloading everything we need
    Downloading from

    Downloading from
    [ OK ]

    # Installing IE 6
    Creating Wine Prefix

    What gives?

I do not have the option to select different versions of IE. Any t?houghts

Perhaps if designers and developers showed some cojones, and stopped catering to IE and it’s crappy problems, it would either go away (yeah!) or maybe even Micro$oft would make it into something workable.
