This step by step guide will show you how to compose a tweet and then schedule it to be sent at a later time or date.

Overview

The steps to schedule a tweet are slightly different depending on the device you’re using. Fortunately, we’ve got you covered regardless as to whether you’re using a mobile device (iPhone, Android, iPad etc) or a desktop/laptop (Windows, macOS, Linux etc).

Schedule a Tweet Using a Mobile Device (Android/iOS)

Long story short: use the “mobile web” version of Twitter. That means instead of using the Twitter app to schedule a tweet, you use Twitter via the web browser on your phone or tablet. Here’s how –

Open the web browser on your phone or tablet (Safari, Chrome etc) and open the page https://mobile.twitter.com. Sign in with your Twitter username and password. Once you’ve signed in, tap the “Compose Tweet” button.

Compose your tweet the same way you always do – attach a photo or video if you’d like – everything you’d normally do. Instead of tapping the Tweet button, locate and tap the Schedule icon/button which is found towards the bottom of the ‘compose tweet’ box (see screenshot below).

Now choose the date and time that you’d like the tweet to be automatically sent. When you’ve made your selections, tap the Confirm button.

The Tweet button will now switch to say Schedule instead. Tap it.

You’ll see a little confirmation notification letting you know the tweet has been scheduled. You can now close out of the browser if you’d like – you don’t need to keep it open for the tweet to be sent later.

If you ever want to see a list of your scheduled tweets, go back to the compose window and look for the link titled Unsent Tweets (Note: you will not have an Unsent Tweets link if you don’t have any currently scheduled tweets or tweets that have been saved as drafts).

Select the Scheduled tab and from here you’ll find a list of all the tweets you currently have scheduled to send at a later time/date.

That’s it!

Schedule a Tweet Using a Desktop or Laptop (Windows/macOS/Linux)

Head over to twitter.com in your favorite web browser and sign in. Click the large Tweet button.

Compose your tweet the same way you always do – attach a photo or video if you’d like – everything you’d normally do. Instead of tapping the Tweet button, locate and tap the Schedule icon/button which is found towards the bottom of the ‘compose tweet’ box (see screenshot below).

Enter in the required info in the Date and Time sections and then click the Confirm button.

Finally, click the Schedule button.

That’s it! Your tweet will be sent at the time you specified back in step #3 and you don’t need to keep Twitter or your browser open, it’s all taken care of. If you ever want to review your scheduled tweets, compose a new tweet and look for the Unsent Tweets link – which will only appear if you have scheduled or tweet drafts saved.

Select the Scheduled tab to see your scheduled tweets.

That’s it!

This guide will show you how to use a browser add-on to completely change the way you experience Facebook by allowing you to remove Sponsored ads, App & Game requests, Stories & much more.

F.B. Purity is a browser add-on that lets you customize your Facebook wall, profile and much more. It’s been around for ages and is considered trustworthy and safe to use. It’s also very frequently updated, so if a featured stops working because Facebook changed something, the F.B. Purity team update the add-on quickly to resolve any problems.

Best of all, it’s available for every major desktop browser, including: Chrome (and Chrome-based browsers like Vivaldi), Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Safari and Opera. Click on the link that represents your browser to install it, or visit the F.B. Purity installation page and install it from there. In most cases it’s as easy as clicking a button and following a couple of steps. Safari is a bit more involved, but really you just need to install another add-on first.

Proceed with step #1 once you have F.B. Purity installed.

Head over to facebook.com. The first time you visit Facebook after installing F.B. Purity you’ll be greeted with a welcome message. Click the “X” in the upper-right corner to close the message.

One thing you’ll probably notice right away is the new “FBP” button in the main toolbar. This is your gateway to the F.B. Purity settings – give it a click.

There are a lot of settings and options. Don’t let this intimidate you, it’s all quite easy to understand and configure. As you can see, FBP blocks “Sponsored” posts (ads) and Game/App posts by default.

Close out of the FBP settings and take a look at your Facebook ‘wall’. You’ll see a new line right above the posts on your wall titled F.B. Purity hid:. This is where FBP lets you know how many items it blocked (hid) and lets you review them. As illustrated in the screenshot below, FBP blocked 2 app related posts, and 2 ‘other’ posts. If your F.B. Purity hid: line doesn’t have any items in it, scroll down your wall – it will update as your wall expands. Once FBP has found something to hide, click the Show link.

FBP will show you exactly what it blocked. It will also include a small “WL” link in the upper-right corner of the posts it blocks. WL stands for “whitelist” – so if there is an app or game you do want to see on your wall, you can add it to your whitelist and FBP will no longer block/hide it.

Another large frequent ‘waste of space’ on your Facebook wall is the People You May Know section.

Go back to the F.B. Purity Settings by clicking the large FBP button in your toolbar. In the More Options section, place a check next to People You May Know

Now click the Save and Close button. This ensures the new setting is saved, and refreshes your Facebook page with those new settings applied. In this case, the People You May Know section will stop appearing on your wall.

The only way to really figure out everything F.B. Purity can do is to go through the options one by one. Start with the Newsfeed Filters section.

A big list of all the various things that FBP can hide from your wall.

The “catch all” way to hide content using FBP is the Text filter. This lets you block content that matches a keyword or phrase no matter who or what posts it. You can use it to filter out things like sports, politicians, celebrities or products.

Keep reviewing the various options and settings and eventually you’ll have a version of Facebook that completely suits your needs.

This guide will take you step by step through the process of installing, setting up and using the PortableApps app so that you can take your own software and settings with you everywhere you go.

Background

The PortableApps app lets you turn any thumb drive into a “portable PC” filled with your software, settings and bookmarks, documents, photos, audio/video files, and more. It allows you to make any PC feel like it’s your own, and doesn’t leave anything behind. It’s incredibly handy to be able to plug it into a friends computer, work or school computer, and have everything you need ready and waiting for you to use.

It works on every modern version of Windows, all the way back to Windows 2000. Perhaps best of all, it’s completely free and it’s even open source, so you can rest assured that there’s no malware or spyware hidden in the app.

Installing PortableApps on a USB Thumb Drive

To get started, plug in your USB thumb drive. You don’t have to delete everything on it, but it might be a good idea to copy the contents over to your hard drive just in case something goes wrong and your data gets erased during the PortableApps installation – which is unlikely, but things happen…

Visit the PortableApps download page and download the installer file. Once the download has completed, run the file.

After clicking Next a few times you’ll be asked what kind of installation you want. Select New Install and then click the Next button.

Choose Portable – install to a portable device and click Next

Select the drive that represents your USB thumb drive and then click Next

At this point you’ll be presented with a confirmation screen. Make sure the right drive has been selected and then click the Install button.

Just sit back and wait while the app installs itself onto your thumb drive. This process doesn’t take very long.

Finally, make sure there’s a check in the box labelled Run PortableApps.com Platform and then click the Finish button.

Setting Up and Using PortableApps

When PortableApps opens for the first time it displays the “About” screen. Close it by clicking the Close button.

The PortableApps app itself will be displayed in the bottom right corner of your desktop. To get started adding software to it, click the Apps button.

Select the Get More Apps… option and then the By Category option.

Give PortableApps time to load all of the software that it offers. This can take a minute or two so just let it do its thing.

Eventually a window will appear with a big list of all the software that works with PortableApps out of the box. Go through the list and place a check in the box next to each app you want to install to your thumb drive.

Click the Next button after you’ve made your selections.

Now PortableApps will download and install everything you just selected. This process can take quite a while, and unfortunately you can’t just leave it and come back later. Many of the Apps require you to click “Accept” to a Terms of Service. The good news is that you only have to go through this process once. Open Minesweeper or something to help kill the time.

Once everything has completed, click the Finish button.

Now the PortableApps app will have a list of all the software available on your thumb drive. Click one of the apps…

… and it’ll open up, exactly the same as if it was installed on the hard drive of the computer you’re using.

PortableApps also includes shortcuts to folders that it has created for you on the thumb drive. Click the Documents button.

Windows Explorer will open and display the contents of that Documents folder – which is on your thumb drive. This is a great place to store all of the files you want to take with you.

One last thing you may want to check out before you’re done – click the Options button.

Check out each tab/section and make any changes you see fit.

The Themes tab contains a series of themes or “skins” that PortableApps can use. I didn’t love the default one, but I found a great one to use in this list. Select one of them and then click OK to apply the change.

Keep trying the themes until you find one you like.

Finally – when you want to use this on another PC just plug in your thumb drive and navigate to it using Windows Explorer. Double-click Start.exe to launch PortableApps.

Remember that when you set up the apps on your thumb drive, the settings for those apps are stored on the thumb drive itself. So you can take your drive to use on another PC, and everything will ready to go. If you use Thunderbird to check your email through PortableApps, you may want to set it to leave mail on the server, so that your email is available to your “main” mail app as well.

This step by step guide will show you how to add any search engine to the Firefox Search bar.

Using a fantastic Firefox add-on, Search Engines Helper, you can add any search box to your Firefox search bar. It’s an open source add-on and you can find the source code here on GitHub if you’d like.

Start by installing the Search Engines Helper Firefox add-on.

Click the newly added Search Engines Helper icon (a magnifying glass, see screenshot below) that’s now in your Firefox menu bar. Then select the Add a new search engine option.

Now you’ll need to add 3 things – a search URL, a name for your search engine, and the location of an icon/logo to use. The easiest way to determine the search address is to run a search on the site you want to add. In my case I used the search engine found here on simplehelp.net. I ran a search for the word “Firefox” which resulted with the URL of: https://www.simplehelp.net/?s=firefox

I copied that URL into the Search URL field in the Search Engines Helper configuration window, but replaced the word “firefox” with a %s variable. If I wanted to add a Google Canada search to my Firefox Search box, I’d use the URL https://www.google.ca/search?q=%s

Enter a name for your search engine in the Search name field. Finally, add the URL to a logo or icon to be displayed with that search. One way to find a URL to use is to take a look at the HTML source of the web page and quickly scan for the words logo or icon – then copy the URL into the Icon URL field. When you’re all done, click the Add search engine button.

At this point a new tab will open up. Click the “3 dots” Page actions button (see screenshot below) found at the end of the URL bar in Firefox. From the menu that appears select Add search engine

Now when you enter a phrase in your Firefox search box a new icon will appear – the search engine you just added. If you select that icon, Firefox will run a search using that custom search engine instead of the default.

If you open the Firefox Preferences and select the Search section, you can make your newly added search engine the default one that Firefox uses.

In that same Search Preferences section you can move your newly added search engine up or down in the ordered list.

Other than the simplehelp.net search (hint hint), two other helpful search engines to add are Gmail and Google Calendar. That way you can search your mail or calendar events without having to have a Gmail or Calendar window open (though you do need to be signed into each service).

If you want to add more search engines to Firefox, just repeat steps 2-4. That’s it!

There are a whole bunch of reasons you may want to trick a web site into thinking you’re using a browser other than Firefox. Maybe you’re a web developer and need to see what a site looks like in another browser. Maybe a site only allows certain browsers and you don’t have access to them. Whatever your reason, this guide will show you how to use the User-Agent Switcher and Manager add-on for Firefox so that you change the user-agent that Firefox uses to identify itself to a different one.

Head over to the User-Agent Switcher and Manager add-on page and install it as you would any other Firefox add-on. Once it’s installed you’ll see a new icon in the upper-right corner of Firefox.

When you click the User-Agent Switcher and Manager icon a large window will pop-up.

To change the User-Agent for Firefox, start by clicking the Browser menu from the upper-left corner of the User-Agent Switcher and Manager pop-up window. From that list, choose the browser you whose user-agent you want to use. In this example, I’m choosing Safari.

Next, click the Operating System menu (it’s right next to the Browser menu). I’ve opted to use iOS.

Now select the version of the browser you want to use.

If you only want the current window (or tab) to use the alternate user-agent, click the Window button. If you want to use the new user-agent across all windows and tabs, click the Apply button.

The User-Agent Switcher and Manager icon will change, indicating the new user-agent that your current window/tab is using.

Click the Refresh Tab button to reload the page you’re currently viewing. This will send the ‘new’ user-agent to the web site and it will load as if you’re using that browser.

As you can see in the screenshot below, YouTube now thinks my browser is Safari for iOS (iPhone/iPad) and it has loaded the mobile version of YouTube.com.

When you’re done and want to switch back to the default Firefox user-agent, re-open the User-Agent Switcher and Manager pop-up window and click the Restart tab if you selected Window back in step #6. If you selected Apply so that the new user-agent was applied to all of your tabs and windows, instead of clicking Restart, click the Reset button.

That’s it! You can now use Firefox to ‘trick’ web sites into thinking you’re using a browser that you’re not actually using.

If you purchased a MacBook, MacBook Air or MacBook Pro with a smaller SSD hard drive, you may want to consider uninstalling some of the Apps that come pre-loaded with your laptop. For example, I’ve never used Garageband in my life – uninstalling it is an easy way to reclaim 1.44 gigabytes of drive space. If you’re using Office 365, LibreOffice or OpenOffice, you can also reclaim some space by uninstalling Numbers, Keynote and Pages. Finally, if you aren’t planning on doing any video work with iMovie – it’s a whopping 2.82 gigabytes that could be reclaimed.

Don’t forget – all of the above mentioned Apps can be downloaded and reinstalled for free via the App Store at any point in time.

Stop Cookie Notices in Chrome

Head over to the “I Don’t Care About Cookies” page on the Chrome Web Store. Click the Add to Chrome button to install the extension.

Once the installation has completed, click the new “cookie” icon in your Chrome Toolbar and select Settings

Click the ‘pull-down’ menu to expand all of the options.

Choose your cookie preference. If you’re unsure, the default of I allow only cookies needed for the website to work properly is perfectly fine.

At this point you’re done – there’s nothing else to configure. Since this is the type of Chrome extension that you don’t need to interact with, you may want to ‘hide’ it from your Toolbar so that it’s out of the way. To do so, right-click the “cookie” icon and select Hide in Chrome Menu

This will place it at the top of the Chrome Menu with any other extension icons you may have opted to hide.

From now on those cookie messages that websites display will be hidden from view and you won’t have to waste time clicking them.

Stop Cookie Notices in Firefox

Head over to the “I Don’t Care About Cookies” page for Firefox Addons and click the + Add to Firefox button.

When prompted, click Add

After the installation has completed, click the Okay, Got It button.

To configure the addon, click the new “cookie” icon and select Settings

Click the drop-down menu and select your preferred option. If you’re unsure, the default of I allow only cookies needed for the website to work properly is perfectly fine.

Since this is an addon that you don’t need to interact with, you may want to hide it from the Firefox Toolbar. To do so, right-click click the ‘cookie’ icon and select Remove From Toolbar. This won’t actually remove the addon, just hide it from the Toolbar.

Should you ever need to access it, just click the Firefox Open menu button from the upper-right corner and select Add-ons from the menu.

From now on those cookie messages that websites display will be hidden from view and you won’t have to waste time clicking them.

If you’re a power YouTube user, the Iridium extension is a must. We’re going to focus on the feature that allows you to watch a video in a separate window, but it’s absolutely worth reviewing the full list of features to get an idea of what Iridium can do.

To install Iridium simply head to the Google Chrome Store extension page for Iridium or the Firefox Add-on page for Iridium and install it as you would any other extension/add-on.

Once the installation has completed, a new icon will appear in your browser (see screenshot below). Give it a click.

A new tab will open in your browser and display all of the Iridium settings. Towards the bottom of the General settings panel you’ll see a section titled Thumbnails. Confirm that Enable player pop-up is enabled and then close out of this tab (you can come back to check out all of the other settings/features in a bit).

Now head over to YouTube. The first time you open the site after installing Iridium you’ll be presented with a ‘thank you for installing’ screen. Click the close button to continue. Note: after you see how well this works and review the other features that it comes with, do at least consider donating to the developer.

Locate a video – any video, and hover your cursor its thumbnail. In the bottom-right corner of the thumbnail a small icon that looks like two squares on top of each other will appear (see screenshot below). Click it.

Ta-da! A small window will appear with your video playing inside of it. This browser window doesn’t have any toolbars, status bars or buttons – just the video. And it’s completely resizable, just click and drag a corner as you would any other window.

If you’re already watching a video and you want to have it ‘pop-out’ you can do that too. Iridium adds a series of ‘new’ buttons below each video on YouTube. Locate that same “two squares on top of each other” icon and click it to switch to the pop-out player.

Now that you’re able to watch YouTube content in a separate window, make sure to check out the rest of Iridiums features.

This quick guide will show you how to block one or more YouTube Channels from being displayed anywhere within YouTube.

Is there a YouTube personality you just can’t stand? Or a channel that constantly shows up in your YouTube Search results that never actually helps or contains the content you want? This guide will show you how to block those channels from ever showing up – in search results, on your YouTube homepage, etc.

By way of a small and easy to use browser addon, you can block any and all content that you don’t want to see on YouTube. Head over to the respective download page for Chrome or Firefox and install the Video Blocker addon the same way you would any other addon or plugin.

Once it’s installed, head over to YouTube (opens in a new tab). There are a number of ways to add channels/users to your block list. Locate a link to the channel you want to block in YouTube, right-click (Mac users ctrl+click) and select Block videos from this channel

Another way to block a channel is to right-click on the channel name from within YouTube Search Results and select Block videos from this channel

Yet another is to right-click on the name of a user within the comments and – you guessed it – select Block videos from this channel

If at any point in time you want to remove a channel/user from your block list, click the Video by button in your browser and then select Options

Then select Blocklist from the list of options in the top row. From here you can remove an item by clicking the Delete link next to its entry.

Have the icons (called favicons) next to your bookmarks in Firefox suddenly disappeared? This guide will help you get them back :)

Fortunately, this issue is probably going to be an easy fix. A number of users, myself included, recently had this happen. There are a couple of possible solutions, and we’ll go over them in order of their likeliness to resolve the problem.

The first is to make sure you’re using the latest version of Firefox, and if not, update it. To do so, click the “Open menu” button from the upper-right corner of Firefox (the button with ‘3 dashes’ on top of each other, see screenshot below) and select Options from that menu.

Scroll down to the section titled Firefox Updates. If you see a button titled Restart to update Firefox that means you’re not running the latest version but it’s ready to be installed – so give that button a click.

If you don’t see a Restart button, click the Check for updates button. Make sure that you see the notice Firefox is up to date after you check for updates.

If you’re using the latest version of Firefox and the issue still persists, try clearing the Firefox cache.

If some of the favicons have returned and others haven’t, you may need to manually edit the ones that aren’t displaying properly. Right-click one with a broken favicon and select Properties

In the Location: field, look to see if the http part of the URL has an “s” at the end, so that it’s https://

If it doesn’t, try adding an s to the http:// part of the address, so that it reads https://

After you’ve switched the address from http to https, you may need to ‘click’ that bookmark again for the favicon to load.

This brief overview will show you how to clear the cache, history and cookies (or any combination of) in the Firefox web browser.

Click the “Open menu” button from the upper-right corner of Firefox (the button with ‘3 dashes’ on top of each other, see screenshot below) and select Options from that menu.

Select Privacy & Security from the list of options on the left side of the window.

Scroll down to the History section and look for the ‘link’ titled clear your recent history. When you’ve located it, give it a click.

First you need to select the ‘time period’ you want to clear. To do so, click the Time range to clear: menu.

Choose Everything from that menu.

Finally, decide exactly what you’d like to clear. If you’re here because you’re troubleshooting an issue with Firefox, it’s probably best to select at least the Cookies and Cache. If you’re here to delete the list of sites you’ve visited, make sure to select Browsing & Download History, Cookies and Cache. When you’re ready, click the Clear Now button.

That’s it – all done!

If you’ve found yourself with a .webm file and are trying to play it, this short guide is just what you’re looking for.

Short background: The .webm format is for media (audio/video). WEBM is an open format, and designed for the web. It’s a wrapper that contains audio and video – much like .MKV files. Since it’s an open format, it’s been pretty widely accepted and used on sites like YouTube.

At one point in time not all versions of Windows and macOS could play .webm files by default but now as long as you’re using a relatively modern version of Windows (Windows 7 and up) or macOS you’ll have no problems.

To open a .webm, you can use pretty much any modern web browser, including the current versions of Chrome, Firefox or Microsoft Edge.

If you have the file on your computer, you can also use media players such as VLC or Media Player Classic – just open your player, select File -> Open and choose the .webm.

If you’re able to view the video below, you’re already set – it’s a .webm file! If the file doesn’t open, update your browser to the latest version and try again.
