This step by step guide will show you how to compose a tweet and then schedule it to be sent at a later time or date.

Overview

The steps to schedule a tweet are slightly different depending on the device you’re using. Fortunately, we’ve got you covered regardless as to whether you’re using a mobile device (iPhone, Android, iPad etc) or a desktop/laptop (Windows, macOS, Linux etc).

Schedule a Tweet Using a Mobile Device (Android/iOS)

Long story short: use the “mobile web” version of Twitter. That means instead of using the Twitter app to schedule a tweet, you use Twitter via the web browser on your phone or tablet. Here’s how –

Open the web browser on your phone or tablet (Safari, Chrome etc) and open the page https://mobile.twitter.com. Sign in with your Twitter username and password. Once you’ve signed in, tap the “Compose Tweet” button.

Compose your tweet the same way you always do – attach a photo or video if you’d like – everything you’d normally do. Instead of tapping the Tweet button, locate and tap the Schedule icon/button which is found towards the bottom of the ‘compose tweet’ box (see screenshot below).

Now choose the date and time that you’d like the tweet to be automatically sent. When you’ve made your selections, tap the Confirm button.

The Tweet button will now switch to say Schedule instead. Tap it.

You’ll see a little confirmation notification letting you know the tweet has been scheduled. You can now close out of the browser if you’d like – you don’t need to keep it open for the tweet to be sent later.

If you ever want to see a list of your scheduled tweets, go back to the compose window and look for the link titled Unsent Tweets (Note: you will not have an Unsent Tweets link if you don’t have any currently scheduled tweets or tweets that have been saved as drafts).

Select the Scheduled tab and from here you’ll find a list of all the tweets you currently have scheduled to send at a later time/date.

That’s it!

Schedule a Tweet Using a Desktop or Laptop (Windows/macOS/Linux)

Head over to twitter.com in your favorite web browser and sign in. Click the large Tweet button.

Compose your tweet the same way you always do – attach a photo or video if you’d like – everything you’d normally do. Instead of tapping the Tweet button, locate and tap the Schedule icon/button which is found towards the bottom of the ‘compose tweet’ box (see screenshot below).

Enter in the required info in the Date and Time sections and then click the Confirm button.

Finally, click the Schedule button.

That’s it! Your tweet will be sent at the time you specified back in step #3 and you don’t need to keep Twitter or your browser open, it’s all taken care of. If you ever want to review your scheduled tweets, compose a new tweet and look for the Unsent Tweets link – which will only appear if you have scheduled or tweet drafts saved.

Select the Scheduled tab to see your scheduled tweets.

This short guide will show you how to configure Microsoft Edge so that it always starts in InPrivate Mode in macOS.

If you surf the web using Microsoft Edge when it’s in “InPrivate mode” that means none of your browsing history, download history, cookies, cached files or passwords are saved when you quit the app. Browsing in InPrivate mode doesn’t keep you safer online, but it does help keep your private information a bit more private.

In order to have Edge automatically start up in InPrivate mode on your Mac you’ll need to create something that’s kind of like a “fancy shortcut”. Fortunately, it’s super easy to do – here’s how –

Launch the Script Editor, which you can find by going to your Applications folder and then the Utilities folder.

Click the New Document button when the Script Editor app opens.

Enter the following line of text into the top panel:

do shell script "open -a /Applications/Microsoft\\ Edge.app --args --inprivate"

Save the file by selecting File and then Save…

Give the file a name (something descriptive) in the Save As: field. The one name not to use is “Microsoft Edge” – anything else is fine. Select your Applications folder as the save the file. Finally, select Application from the File Format: menu. Click Save when you’re done.

Check your Applications folder and you’ll find a new app. Before we test it out, let’s get rid of the ugly icon first.

<ins class="adsbygoogle"
     style="display:block; text-align:center;"
     data-ad-layout="in-article"
     data-ad-format="fluid"
     data-ad-client="ca-pub-5859953828663601"
     data-ad-slot="8016768772"></ins>

Hold down the control</strong key and click your app. Select Get Info from the menu.

Take a moment to download an icon file from macOSicons to use with your new copy of Edge. Once you’ve picked one out and downloaded it, drag-and-drop it onto the existing small icon in the upper-left corner of the Get Info panel (see screenshot below).

Confirm that the icon changed.

Quit any open instances of Microsoft Edge and then double-click your newly created custom app. Ta-da! Edge will open in InPrivate mode. Every time you open Edge via the new app it will open in InPrivate, as long as there aren’t any currently running instances of the browser. That’s it! You can update Edge as you normally would when updates become available and just leave the version you created as it is.

This brief tutorial explains how you can now access your Outlook.com or Hotmail.com email from within the Microsoft Edge browser, without having to open a tab or new window.

Microsoft recently and quietly released a preview version of an add-on for the Edge browser named Microsoft Outlook (don’t ask me, I didn’t name it). The add-on puts a small icon in your browser toolbar and when you click that icon you’re presented with a condensed but very detailed look at your Outlook.com or Hotmail.com inbox. You can view your emails, compose and respond to emails (easily attach photos/files), delete, flag or archive messages and much, much more. Here’s how to get started using the Microsoft Outlook add-on for Edge –

Head over to the Microsoft Outlook add-on page and click the Get button. Unlike most of the add-ons for Edge, this one is only for Edge and doesn’t work in Chrome or any other Chromium-based browsers.

Click the Add extension button when prompted.

A new icon will appear in your toolbar. Give it a click.

Now click the Sign in button.

Enter your email address and then click the Next button. You may also be asked to enter your password – do so if it’s requested.

Now your Inbox will load inside a small panel that expands from the Microsoft Outlook icon in your taskbar. To compose an email from within this panel, click the plus sign ( + ) button.

A condensed ‘compose an email’ screen will load within the Microsoft Outlook panel. This minimal version lacks pretty much all formatting options but it can be quite handy if you’re referring to a web page a lot while writing the email, as it hovers right above the page.

When you click a link within an email in the Microsoft Outlook add-on panel it opens in new tab in Edge, as you’d expect.

When you hover your cursor over an email a series of 4 icons will appear, and selecting one of those icons allows you to quickly delete the email, archive the email, flag the email or pin the email.

There’s also a series of tabs at the bottom of the panel – those tabs are your Calendar, Contacts and To-Do list – making this add-on that much more helpful.

This guide will show you how to use a browser add-on to completely change the way you experience Facebook by allowing you to remove Sponsored ads, App & Game requests, Stories & much more.

F.B. Purity is a browser add-on that lets you customize your Facebook wall, profile and much more. It’s been around for ages and is considered trustworthy and safe to use. It’s also very frequently updated, so if a featured stops working because Facebook changed something, the F.B. Purity team update the add-on quickly to resolve any problems.

Best of all, it’s available for every major desktop browser, including: Chrome (and Chrome-based browsers like Vivaldi), Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Safari and Opera. Click on the link that represents your browser to install it, or visit the F.B. Purity installation page and install it from there. In most cases it’s as easy as clicking a button and following a couple of steps. Safari is a bit more involved, but really you just need to install another add-on first.

Proceed with step #1 once you have F.B. Purity installed.

Head over to facebook.com. The first time you visit Facebook after installing F.B. Purity you’ll be greeted with a welcome message. Click the “X” in the upper-right corner to close the message.

One thing you’ll probably notice right away is the new “FBP” button in the main toolbar. This is your gateway to the F.B. Purity settings – give it a click.

There are a lot of settings and options. Don’t let this intimidate you, it’s all quite easy to understand and configure. As you can see, FBP blocks “Sponsored” posts (ads) and Game/App posts by default.

click to enlarge

Close out of the FBP settings and take a look at your Facebook ‘wall’. You’ll see a new line right above the posts on your wall titled F.B. Purity hid:. This is where FBP lets you know how many items it blocked (hid) and lets you review them. As illustrated in the screenshot below, FBP blocked 2 app related posts, and 2 ‘other’ posts. If your F.B. Purity hid: line doesn’t have any items in it, scroll down your wall – it will update as your wall expands. Once FBP has found something to hide, click the Show link.

FBP will show you exactly what it blocked. It will also include a small “WL” link in the upper-right corner of the posts it blocks. WL stands for “whitelist” – so if there is an app or game you do want to see on your wall, you can add it to your whitelist and FBP will no longer block/hide it.

Another large frequent ‘waste of space’ on your Facebook wall is the People You May Know section.

Go back to the F.B. Purity Settings by clicking the large FBP button in your toolbar. In the More Options section, place a check next to People You May Know

Now click the Save and Close button. This ensures the new setting is saved, and refreshes your Facebook page with those new settings applied. In this case, the People You May Know section will stop appearing on your wall.

The only way to really figure out everything F.B. Purity can do is to go through the options one by one. Start with the Newsfeed Filters section.

A big list of all the various things that FBP can hide from your wall.

The “catch all” way to hide content using FBP is the Text filter. This lets you block content that matches a keyword or phrase no matter who or what posts it. You can use it to filter out things like sports, politicians, celebrities or products.

Keep reviewing the various options and settings and eventually you’ll have a version of Facebook that completely suits your needs.

This detailed guide will take you every step of the way through installing Internet Explorer 9 on your Mac – using nothing but free software.

Important: There are a couple of things you should know before you undertake this (quite easy, albeit lengthy) endeavor. You will require approximately 26GB (yes, gigabytes) of free space in order to install IE 9 using the method outlined below. Once the installation is complete, you’ll be able to delete all of the files required for the set up, but you’ll still be using approximately 13GB of disk space to run IE 9.

The installation involves downloading 13+GB of data – so you may want to run the initial download overnight, depending on the speed of your Internet connection.

It’s also worth mentioning that while there are other methods to install Internet Explorer on your Mac, this is the only one that I have found to consistently run IE 9 correctly (no crashing, no problems rendering web pages etc). If the above requirements don’t scare you off, here are the steps to install IE 9 on your Mac.

The first thing you’ll need to do is install VirtualBox, if you don’t have it installed on your Mac already. Head over to the VirtualBox download page and download VirtualBox for OS X. The installation is very straight forward – run the installer package and click ‘Next’ a bunch of times. Once completed, don’t open VirtualBox, just proceed to the next step.

Open up a Terminal by navigating to Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal. From the prompt, enter the following command:

curl -s https://raw.github.com/xdissent/ievms/master/ievms.sh | IEVMS_VERSIONS=”9″ bash

and hit Enter.

click to enlarge

This is where you’ll want to take a long break. Your Mac is now downloading approximately 13GB of data.

click to enlarge

You can check on the status once in a while but it’s about as entertaining as watching paint dry.

click to enlarge

After the download has finished, the files will be processed.

click to enlarge

When you see Done! in the Terminal window and are returned to the command prompt, you’re finished with the time consuming part. Leave the Terminal window open – we’ll be using it later to delete the unnecessary files.

click to enlarge

Now open VirtualBox from your Applications folder. If you’re prompted to download an update, click the Download button. If you’re not, skip down to step #14.

click to enlarge

Again, click the Download button.

click to enlarge

Now click the Install button.

click to enlarge

If prompted, click Upgrade.

click to enlarge

Scroll all the way to the bottom of the VirtualBox License window (the I Agree button won’t be ‘clickable’ until you do). Click I Agree.

click to enlarge

Enter your password when prompted.

Finally, click OK.

Select IE9 (clean) from the column on the left side of the VirtualBox window. Note: you may also see an entry titled ‘IE9 Inaccessible’ – ignore it. Now click the Settings button from the Toolbar.

click to enlarge

Click the System tab from the top menu. Select Motherboard from the secondary menu. Use the ‘slider’ to increase the Base Memory: level. Assuming your Mac has at least 2GB of RAM, I would suggest increasing the Base Memory to 1024MB. Your VirtualBox (IE 9) will run quite slowly if you use much less than 1024MB of memory. Click OK when you’re done.

click to enlarge

With IE9 (clean) still selected, click the Start button.

click to enlarge

VirtualBox will now explain how the Auto capture keyboard feature works. Read this message carefully. In a nutshell it amounts to this – use the left command key on your keyboard to ‘release’ your keyboard and mouse from the virtual machine (IE 9). Click OK.

click to enlarge

Windows will now boot.

If a mouse pointer integration message appears, ignore it and click OK.

Once Windows finishes setting itself up and boots, select the Administrator ‘button’. Note: NOT the “Admin” user. Use the password: Password1

Note: the password is case sensitive – the P in Password1 must be capitalized.

Now you’ll sign into Windows.

The Windows Activation window will appear. Click Ask me later. You’ll be presented with this screen every time you launch your IE 9 Virtual Machine – click Ask me later every time.

You will have a complete Windows 7 working environment, including Internet Explorer 9.

click to enlarge

Now you can test out web sites in IE 9, access those “Internet Explorer only” sites etc.

click to enlarge

Bring that Terminal window back up. Enter the command:

cd .ievms

click to enlarge

Now enter the following commands, one at a time:

cd vhd
cd IE9
rm *.rar
rm *.exe
ls

After entering the “ls” command, you should see two files (and only two files) – Windows 7.vhd and Windows 7.vcm.

click to enlarge

That will have cleared up about 13GB of hard drive space, leaving only the files required to run Windows 7 and IE 9. You can quit the Terminal now – you’re done!

This very brief tutorial will guide you through the steps required to disable (most) animated GIFs in the Google Chrome web browser.

Background

There are a number of extensions that ‘disable’ animated GIFs in Chrome. In this guide I will explain how to install, setup and use the Animation Policy extension – it’s small, easy to setup and best of all it works. It’s also very much worth mentioning that this extension also works in Microsoft Edge, since it’s based on Chrome too.

Disabling Animated GIFs in Chrome

Head over to the Animation Policy extension page and click the Add to Chrome button.

Click the Add extension button when prompted.

To access the settings, click the Extensions icon in your Chrome Toolbar (see screenshot below) and then click the Animation Policy icon (the one that looks like a lightening bolt).

Finally, select either Allow animated images, but only once or Disable all image animation based on your specific needs.

Test it out over at Giphy. If you’re testing it out on a page you currently have open, you’ll need to refresh that page in order for the extension to load and disable any animated GIFs on that page.

That’s it! If you ever need to access the settings again just repeat steps #3-4.

If you’re new to Internet Explorer 9, you might not like the minimal interface. You can go through and make UI and other adjustments manually, but here we’ll take a look at a free utility that will tweak it how you want easily.

1. Download and install the free utility Tweak IE9. Installation is easy following the defaults. After you go through the initial install steps, accept the EULA, then you can click on the same executable icon to launch Tweak IE9 anytime you need it.

2. Before you run it, make sure you are closed out of IE 9. Then you’ll be able to go through and select different settings for the User Interface, Startup, Downloads, and Security. After you’ve made your selections click the Tweak IE9 Now button.

3. Now when you start IE 9 you’ll see the changes you selected.

4. If you want to change settings just launch Tweak IE 9 again and make your selections.

5. If you want IE 9 to go back to its original state, click on the Restore IE9 button. Give the utility a few moments to restore the original settings, then click on Run Internet Explorer 9.

6. There you are! Everything is restored back to how it was when you originally installed IE 9.

If you want to tweak different settings in IE9 without having to change each setting manually, Tweak IE9 is an easier way to make changes. This is an easy utility to use for home and expert users alike.

1. As you probably already know, browsers like Firefox and Google Chrome feature a Spell Checking feature by default. Here are examples of leaving a comment on Simple Help using Firefox and Chrome.

2. Unfortunately it’s not available in IE…at least not yet. Hopefully Microsoft will come out with an update for it.

3.Until it or when it becomes available, download and install the free utility Speckie. Installation is straight-forward following the wizard.

4. It’s built on the MS Visual C++ program language and will require the 2008 Redistributable to be installed.

5. After Speckie has finished installation, close out of IE 9 and re-launch it. You’ll see the add-on is ready to use…click the Enable button.

6. Now when you type into IE 9 you’ll have the benefit of real-time spell checking.

7. Like with most spell checking utilities, you can add words to the dictionary if you know they’re correct, but Speckie sees them as misspelled.

8. Right-click on a misspelled word and you can get suggestions to other spellings or add more global dictionaries from their site.

9. There are several different dictionaries available, so hopefully you’ll find the one you need.

If you would like a spell checking feature in Internet Explorer 9, Speckie is a good way to add that functionality to older versions of IE as well.

If your concerned about privacy and the way websites and advertisers track your location, there is a setting in IE9 that you can set to stop the tracking. Here we’ll show you how to enable that feature in IE 9.

The feature is called Do Not Track User Preference and it simply transmits a special information with every page you go to, telling the site that you don’t want to be tracked.

1. Launch IE 9 and hit the ALT key to bring up the . Click on Tools then Internet Options.

2. Alternately you can right-click an empty area to the right of a tab and click on Menu Bar to bring it up permanently.

3. When the Internet Options window comes up, click on the Privacy tab. Under Location, check the box next to Never allow websites to request your physical location.

4. If you’ve been using IE 9 without knowing about this setting – click on Clear Sites to eliminate them from tracking you. When you’re done click OK.

Enable Do Not Track in Firefox

1. The same type of feature is available in Firefox 4 RC 1 as well. Open Firefox, click on the Firefox dropdown menu and click on Options.

2. In the Options window click on Advanced then the General tab. Under Browsing check the box next to Tell web sites I do not want to be tracked then click OK.

That is all there is to it. If you are concerned about your privacy and don’t want advertisers and other websites tracking your location. If you use IE 9 or Firefox 4, make sure to enable these options.

This guide will show you how to configure Chrome so that it gives you a warning before you exit the browser, saving you from accidentally closing all of your open tabs etc.

Unlike other modern browsers like Firefox and Safari, Chrome does not ‘warn’ you when closing your browser if multiple-tabs are open. Once upon a time there was an extension that provided this functionality (it was made by Google in fact) but it has since been retired. Also, it only worked for Windows users.

Fast forward to 2021 and although the functionality still hasn’t been added to Chrome, there’s an easy enough workaround. If you load some simple javascript into a tab in Chrome, it will force a window to pop up when you try to close that tab. Just copy and paste this code into a file and name it something like warn.html

<script>
var unloadEvent = function (e) {
var confirmationMessage = "Do you want to close this?";
(e || window.event).returnValue = confirmationMessage; //Gecko + IE
return confirmationMessage; //Webkit, Safari, Chrome etc.
};
window.addEventListener("beforeunload", unloadEvent);
</script>
<html>
<head>
<title>Warn Before Close</title>
</head>
<body>
<h3>Click somewhere on this page to activate</h3>
Make sure to click somewhere on this page. Once you do, you won't be able to close this tab without clicking a <strong>Leave</strong> button first.
</body>
</html>

Open that file in Chrome (and then click somewhere inside the window) and then try to close Chrome. You’ll see a pop-up message that forces you to click a Leave button before it actually closes that tab.

I’ve also put a page up at:

https://www.simplehelp.net/images/warn.html

that you can use if you wish.

This guide will show you how to make sure that Google Chrome and/or Microsoft Edge always play YouTube videos at the highest possible quality.

Using a small, free, “set it and forget it” extension for Google Chrome (which also works with Microsoft Edge) you can make sure that YouTube always plays videos at the highest possible HD quality. Or, you can choose a specific resolution level to set as the default instead of the highest possible. For example, if your screen or monitor doesn’t support 4K video, you’ll want to set the default to 1080p (or lower).

Head over to the YouTube Auto HD extension page and click the Add to Chrome button.

When prompted, click the Add extension button.

Now you need to locate the newly installed extension icon. Depending on your version of Chrome (or Edge) it may appear directly in your toolbar – if it does, click it from there. It may also be “hidden” in the Extensions section – in which case you’ll need to click that icon first and then click the YouTube Auto HD icon.

A list of all the possible YouTube “quality” settings will be displayed. Decide which one you want to become your new default and select it from the list.

Once again, click on the YouTube Auto HD icon and confirm that the check-mark is next to the quality setting that you want to use.

Now let’s head over to YouTube and find a video to watch. One way to test out your new settings is to just search for “4K”. Choose a video from the list of search results and confirm that it’s 4K video by locating the 4k icon.

The video will start playing at the resolution you selected via the extension, not the one that YouTube wants you to use.

Of course you can always change to a different quality level while you’re watching the video, the same always.

This guide will show you how to use your keyboard to control YouTube videos – fast forward and rewind, play/pause, volume and more!

These keyboard tricks to control YouTube should work in most web browsers – Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Microsoft Edge. They work whether you’re using YouTube within a browser window or playing in full screen.

To fast forward through a video you have a couple of choices.

Instead of waiting to get to a specific part, you can use the number keys (not on the number pad) and skip ahead in intervals of 10%. For example, say you want to jump ahead to the half way point of the video – just hit the number 5 on your keyboard (representing 50%) – and it will skip ahead to the middle. If you’ve played the video all the way through, this trick still works. You can go back to the beginning by typing 0.

You can also skip forwards or backwards in 5 seconds intervals by using the left and right arrow keys.

Control the volume by using the up arrow key to turn up the volume and the down arrow key to lower the volume. Each time you tap the up or down arrow key the volume will increase or decrease in 5% increments, and the volume level is displayed on-screen.

Use the spacebar to pause and unpause a video while it’s playing.
