This step by step guide will show you how to compose a tweet and then schedule it to be sent at a later time or date.

Overview

The steps to schedule a tweet are slightly different depending on the device you’re using. Fortunately, we’ve got you covered regardless as to whether you’re using a mobile device (iPhone, Android, iPad etc) or a desktop/laptop (Windows, macOS, Linux etc).

Schedule a Tweet Using a Mobile Device (Android/iOS)

Long story short: use the “mobile web” version of Twitter. That means instead of using the Twitter app to schedule a tweet, you use Twitter via the web browser on your phone or tablet. Here’s how –

Open the web browser on your phone or tablet (Safari, Chrome etc) and open the page https://mobile.twitter.com. Sign in with your Twitter username and password. Once you’ve signed in, tap the “Compose Tweet” button.

Compose your tweet the same way you always do – attach a photo or video if you’d like – everything you’d normally do. Instead of tapping the Tweet button, locate and tap the Schedule icon/button which is found towards the bottom of the ‘compose tweet’ box (see screenshot below).

Now choose the date and time that you’d like the tweet to be automatically sent. When you’ve made your selections, tap the Confirm button.

The Tweet button will now switch to say Schedule instead. Tap it.

You’ll see a little confirmation notification letting you know the tweet has been scheduled. You can now close out of the browser if you’d like – you don’t need to keep it open for the tweet to be sent later.

If you ever want to see a list of your scheduled tweets, go back to the compose window and look for the link titled Unsent Tweets (Note: you will not have an Unsent Tweets link if you don’t have any currently scheduled tweets or tweets that have been saved as drafts).

Select the Scheduled tab and from here you’ll find a list of all the tweets you currently have scheduled to send at a later time/date.

That’s it!

Schedule a Tweet Using a Desktop or Laptop (Windows/macOS/Linux)

Head over to twitter.com in your favorite web browser and sign in. Click the large Tweet button.

Compose your tweet the same way you always do – attach a photo or video if you’d like – everything you’d normally do. Instead of tapping the Tweet button, locate and tap the Schedule icon/button which is found towards the bottom of the ‘compose tweet’ box (see screenshot below).

Enter in the required info in the Date and Time sections and then click the Confirm button.

Finally, click the Schedule button.

That’s it! Your tweet will be sent at the time you specified back in step #3 and you don’t need to keep Twitter or your browser open, it’s all taken care of. If you ever want to review your scheduled tweets, compose a new tweet and look for the Unsent Tweets link – which will only appear if you have scheduled or tweet drafts saved.

Select the Scheduled tab to see your scheduled tweets.

Using a small and free App you’ll always be 2 clicks away from being able to ‘paste’ any emoji into your Windows apps or in a browser (Twitter, Gmail etc). This quick guide will show you how to install and use the App.

This app works in Windows versions 7, 8.x and 10, but the screenshots and steps in this guide are from Windows 10. If you’re using Windows 7 or 8 you should be able to follow along just fine, the images and steps are very similar.

Head over to the the TwemojiTray download page and download the file emoji-toolbar.zip. Double-click the .zip file to open it, then select the Extract all button.

Click the Browse</strong button to select the location you want to put the required files.

I opted to put them in my C:\Program Files (x86) folder. You certainly don’t, but it’s as good a place as any – it is a ‘program file’ after all :)

No matter where you decide to store the files, make sure there’s a check in the box labelled Show extracted files when complete and then click the Extract button.

Depending on where you opted to extract the files you may be prompted with a message asking you to grant administrative privileges. Click Continue if so.

Once the files have been extracted a window will open displaying the newly created emoji-toolbar folder. Open it.

Inside you’ll find a win32 folder – open that one.

Finally! Find the file named emoji-toolbar.exe and double-click it to run the app.

Depending on your Windows settings, you may be prompted with a security warning window. Click the More info link at the end of the description.

Click the Run away button. Please keep in mind this app is perfectly safe – in fact it’s open source so you can look at all the code yourself if you’d like.

Ta-da! A new icon will appear in your System Tray. Give it a click.

A small pop-up window will appear with a large, scrollable list of all of the standardized emojis. You can even search for them using the small search box.

When you locate the emoji you want to use simply give it a click.

That will automatically copy the emoji to your Windows clipboard.

Now open a browser window or App, right-click and select Paste or use the keyboard combination Ctrl + v to paste the emoji wherever your cursor is currently residing.

Repeat as needed!

If you’d like to set TwemojiTray to open up automatically each time Windows starts, just follow the steps outlined in this tutorial.

It’s probably best to use this sparingly and only within Tweets you’d consider very unimportant.

With that out of the way – let’s jump in!

Head over to Twitalics (opens in a new tab/window). That’s where most of the action will happen.

In the text box at the top of the page, enter the word(s) that you’d like to bold or italicize. Then select the actual change you want – bold, italics, blackletter etc. from the list of options below that text box.

Below that, in a box with a green background, you’ll see the formatted text. Highlight that text and then right-click (ctrl-click if you’re using a Mac, long-press if you’re using a phone/tablet) it. Select Copy

In your Twitter client, paste that text into your ‘Compose New Tweet’ window. The formatting will remain intact.

<ins class="adsbygoogle"
     style="display:block; text-align:center;"
     data-ad-layout="in-article"
     data-ad-format="fluid"
     data-ad-client="ca-pub-5859953828663601"
     data-ad-slot="8016768772"></ins>

Repeat the process if you want to format additional text. Enter it into the text box, select the formatting options, copy the newly formatted text and paste it into your Tweet.

There you go – you now have italics and bold text on Twitter.

The initial method that this guide used was via a service that’s no longer in business. Fortunately, another company has picked up where they left off and we’re back in business.

To get started, head over to the RSS.app website. You’ll need to create an account, or you can just use your Google or Twitter account for authentication.

Visit the Twitter Advanced Search page (link will open in a new tab/window) and enter in the search criteria you want to create an RSS feed for. As illustrated in the example screenshot below, I’m searching for tweets that contain the words “Vancouver” or “Victoria” from the @SecretFlying account. When you’ve entered the term or terms you want to search for, click the Search button.

Now copy the URL that was created when you ran that search.

<ins class="adsbygoogle"
     style="display:block; text-align:center;"
     data-ad-layout="in-article"
     data-ad-format="fluid"
     data-ad-client="ca-pub-5859953828663601"
     data-ad-slot="8016768772"></ins>

Head over to the the Twitter section of RSS.app

Paste the URL you just copied into the Enter Twitter URL field and then click the Generate button.

Your RSS feed will be instantly created and ready to use – but before you do, click the Edit button.

Give the Feed Title a bit more of a ‘readable’ name and then click the Save button.

Now you can copy the newly created feed URL.

Enter it into your RSS reader and you’re all done!

You know how when you share your Instagram photos to Twitter they show up as links to an Instagram web page rather than the actual picture? Annoying right? This guide will show you how to have your Instagram photos automatically posted/shared to Twitter as photos, not just a link.

Using the free and fantastic web service Ifttt, you can set up an “Applet” that will automatically post your Instagram photos to Twitter, but instead of just tweeting a link back to Instagram, it takes your IG photo and tweets it properly – as a photo! (see screenshot below). It’s easy and fast to set up, and best of all it’s a “set it and forget it” applet, everything is done automatically for you.

To get started, head over to the Ifttt home page (link opens in a new tab/window) and click the Sign up button in the upper-right corner. The signup process is quick and painless (and again, this is a free service).

Now that you have an Ifttt account, enable this Applet by toggling the switch to On

Ifttt needs permission to access your Instagram and Twitter accounts, so click the Ok button when prompted.

You’ll be redirected to Instagram to enable access first. If you aren’t already, sign in first and then click the Authorize button.

Once Instagram has been authorized you’ll be directed to Twitter, where you’ll need to authorize Ifttt. Do so by clicking the Authorize app button.

Finally you’ll be sent back to the Ifttt Applet page. Confirm that the Applet is now set to On

That’s it! Seriously, it was that easy. Launch Instagram on your phone, snap a photo, compose your caption and post it exactly as you normally would. This is important – do NOT toggle the ‘share to Twitter’ button on. Leave it off. Ifttt will be doing the magic for you.

Now head over to Twitter. Ta-da! There’s your Instagram photo, properly shared to Twitter! AND, there’s still a link back to the original IG post, truly the best of both worlds.

That’s it!

This very brief guide will show you how to embed a “poll” within your Tweet!

Twitter now allows for users to create polls from within Tweets. <strike>Currently polls are limited to two ‘answers’ (ie. yes/no, true/false, X or Y).</strike> Update: You can now create a poll with more than two answers/options. Once you post a poll it will remain open for votes for 24 hours.

As of Wednesday, Oct. 21st, Twitter is rolling out the “Poll” feature to all of its users. If you don’t see the “poll” button as illustrated in this guide, wait a day or two :)

Does your Twitter account have polls enabled yet?

— Ross (@rossm) October 28, 2015

Right now, polls work on Twitter for iOS (iPhones and iPads), Android, and via Twitter on the web. To make your own poll, start out by composing a Tweet as normal, in the form of a question you want answered (#1). Then click or tap the new Poll button (as illustrated by #2 in the screenshot below). Finally, enter the answers/options for people to vote on.

Send your Tweet as normal, and now people can vote on it! The total number of votes and percentage of those votes will be displayed within the Tweet as well.

No one will know who voted, or how they voted. Neither you as the “poll creator” nor anyone who votes or views the poll will be able to see that information. Keep this in mind when you create a poll – unless your account is set to private, anyone can vote on your poll (and you’ll never know who it was).

Finally, as of right now (Oct 28th, 2015) – when someone votes on your poll, you aren’t notified in any way. So remember to check back 24 hours after you created it to see the results.

“Netiquette” is slang for “Internet etiquette”. It refers to the accepted behaviours and practices regarding interactive online activity such as discussion forums, chat rooms, and email. Adherence to these guidelines will help make the online community in which you are participating more enjoyable for everyone to use.

Please note that the points discussed here provide general suggestions; for more specific information, you should read the guidelines for the community in which you want to participate.

Instant Messaging Etiquette

Don’t type in all capital letters
Typing in all capital letters on the Internet is considered rude because it is difficult to read and comes across as very aggressive (LIKE SHOUTING!). This rule of thumb is true across the Internet – not just when IM’ing. If you take away nothing from this ‘how-to’ other than knowing that typing in “caps” is widely despised on the Internet, consider it time well spent.

Try not to “pounce” other users
Pouncing” refers to sending someone an instant message immediately after that person signs on to the service. He or she may wish to perform other tasks while starting the messenger app. The person may need a few minutes to put up an “away” or “do not disturb” message, signifying that he or she doesn’t wish to engage in conversation at the moment. You should always wait a few minutes before sending someone an instant message.

Tell other users when you are away
Most instant messaging services provide a way of notifying other users that you are not responding to messages or have stepped away from the computer. Most make use of “away” or “do not disturb” messages. Another way of telling other users that you cannot answer their messages is to simply let them know in conversation that you must leave. You wouldn’t want someone to wait for your response for more than a few minutes.

Keep it casual
You may not want to use instant messaging to give someone bad news or make a major announcement. While some people may consider instant messaging similar to the telephone as a means of communication, others consider it much less formal.

Use reasonable fonts and colours
It can be very unpleasant to have to look at huge fonts or light colours while conversing on an instant messaging service. Try to stick the standard font size and colours unless you are positive that the other person doesn’t mind.

Email Etiquette

Avoid forwarding junk mail
Many folks repeatedly forward junk mail, such as “virus alerts”, chain letters and memes. Unless someone specifically tells you that he/she enjoys receiving these “forwards”, you shouldn’t send them. This is even more important if you’re emailing a co-worker.

Consider your audience
Avoid sending emails to everyone in your address book unless the information contained is vital for each and every person in it. Otherwise, these “mass emails” simply clog other people’s inboxes.

Use threads
When someone sends you an email and you wish to reply, you should always hit the “reply” button within your email client rather than beginning a new email. This allows users to keep track of the thread of conversation.

Be appropriate
What is acceptable in a casual email to a friend might not be acceptable in a work-related email. In general, for official communications, you should avoid using online abbreviations and emojis, and pay more attention to spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

Use plain text
This one isn’t quite as important as it once was, since almost all email apps are HTML-enabled. But if it’s a professional email, you may want to consider sending it in plain text rather than HTML.

Avoid sending large attachments
Unless specifically directed to do so, may not want to send large attachments to your email contacts. Not everyone has a connection that’s as fast as yours, and large attachments can take a long time to download for some people.

Message Board/Forum Etiquette

Don’t spam
Within the context of message boards, “spamming” can refer to repeatedly posting the same message. This is considered poor etiquette and will usually result in the spammer’s removal from the forum or group.

Don’t be a troll
A “troll” refers to someone who enters a forum purely to flame or annoy other participants. “Trolling” is not acceptable in online communities and can result in one’s being banned from the forum or board. A troll can also refer to someone who has multiple usernames on the same forum.

Stay on topic
When you submit an off-topic post to a thread, it detracts from the discussion at hand. If you wish to discuss a new topic, you begin a new thread.

Try to spell correctly and use proper grammar
You should make every effort to spell correctly and use proper grammar within forums and discussion groups. If a post is incoherent, moderators and administrators may delete it.

Don’t get too carried away “flaming”
“Flaming”, within the domain of online communities, refers to heated exchange on a message board or in a chat room. In general, flaming is permissible only when it does not involve ad hominem attacks on other participants in the forum.

Chat Room Etiquette

Think before you speak
When entering a chat room – public or private, you should wait a few minutes before typing in order to get a feel for the flow of conversation. This way, you won’t say anything that is completely off-topic, which would detract from the conversation.

Refrain from profanity/offensive language
Don’t type anything in a chat room that you wouldn’t ordinarily say in public. Offensive language does nothing to enhance a chat room experience, and is usually strictly moderated.

What is spamming?
In the context of chat rooms, spamming refers to typing the same thing repeatedly. This annoys other chatters and will usually result in your ejection from the chat room.

Avoid typing long messages
No one wants to have to scroll through more than five lines to get to the comment after yours. If you have something long to say, try to break it up into smaller pieces or send it as a private message.
