This short guide will explain how to take screenshots using your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch – and how to access them.

Although this guide was initially published way back in 2008, it has been updated to be completely current in 2021.

Apple has made it quite easy to take screenshots with your iPhone or iPod Touch, once you know how. There are 3 possible ways to take a screenshot in iOS, and the method you use depends on your specific device.

iPhones with Touch ID and Top button, the iPod Touch & most iPads

Press the Top button and the Home button at the same time. The screen will ‘flash’ and you’ll hear a camera sound as you take the screenshot.

iPhones with Touch ID and Side button

Press the Side button and the Home button at the same time and release both at the same time. The screen will ‘flash’ and you’ll hear a camera sound as you take the screenshot.

iPhones & iPads with Face ID

Press the Side Button and the Volume Up button at the same time and then release both at the same time. The screen will ‘flash’ and you’ll hear a camera sound as you take the screenshot.

Where to Find Screenshots Taken on your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch

In older versions of iOS, your screenshots would be mixed in with your other photos. Now they have their own folder.

  1. Open the Photos app.
  2. Select Albums from the bottom menu, scroll down to the Media Types section and then select Screenshots
  3. Here’s where all of your screenshots reside.

Now you know how to take screenshots on your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch!
