How to Determine if Your CPU Supports Windows 7 “XP Mode”

This brief tutorial will show you how to quickly figure out if your current CPU supports Windows 7’s “Windows XP Mode” feature.

1. First up, head over to the SecurAble page and download a copy of SecurAble. SecurAble is a stand-alone program, so there’s no need to install anything – once the download has completed, just run it. Note: SecurAble supports both Intel and AMD CPUs.
2. SecurAble will quickly open and and display 3 stats. The one you want to pay close attention to is Hardware Virtualization. If there’s a big Yes in the Hardware Virtualization section, your CPU will support the XP Mode feature of Windows 7.

3. If it says no – you’re out of luck. Windows 7 on your existing PC (or at least with its current CPU) will not work for you.

4. It’s also worth noting that you’ll need at least a 1 GHz 32-bit / 64-bit processor, 1.25 GB of RAM (2GB recommended), 15 GB hard disk space per virtual Windows environment (recommended) and that Windows XP Mode is only available in Windows 7 Enterprise, Windows 7 Professional, and Windows 7 Ultimate.
