How to Speed Up Windows 7 With Write Caching

This tutorial explain step by step how to improve the speed and performance of your PC by enabling write caching on in Windows 7.

Microsoft Windows 7 was designed to have better speed and performance than any previous version of Windows. Windows 7 has several features, which when configured correctly, can significantly boost system performance. One way to speed up Microsoft Windows 7 is by enabling write caching on the hard drive of the computer.

Write Caching allows Windows 7 to flush (move) recently changed data to the hard drive from your physical memory (RAM) when the system is idle. In turn, this improves performance when the system is in use.

1. Open the System Window by right-clicking the Computer icon in your Start Menu, and then select Properties.
2. Click the Device Manager link on the left side of the System window.
3. In the Device manager window, expand the Disk Drives entry.
4. Select your primary hard drive, right-click it and select Properties.
5. Click the Policies tab in the Device Properties window and then check the box next to Enable write caching on the device.
6. Click OK and close the previous windows.

One note of caution: if you leave your computer turned on for long periods of time and you experience a power outage, you might lose some data. This is a great performance tweak for laptop Windows 7 users in particular.
