How to Block Specific Sites From Google Search Results

This easy to follow guide will show you how to block the sites (domains) that you don’t want included in your Google search results.

The only caveat is that you have to be using either Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox – I’m not sure this can be done in Safari or IE/Edge (if you know how please let us know in the comments!)

The screenshots used in this guide are from Chrome – the steps are nearly identical if you’re using Firefox, and you won’t have any trouble following along.

1. Chrome users, install the Personal Blocklist extension. Firefox users, install the Personal Blocklist Add-On.
2. When promoted, make sure to select Add extension
3. Confirm the installation was successful by making sure the extension/Add-on is now visible in your browser’s menu bar.
4. Now just search for something on Google. Below each result you’ll find a new link titled Block domain.com (where domain.com is the domain of the site in the search result). If you click this link, all pages for that domain will be excluded in your search results going forward. You’ll still be able to access the site(s) – they just won’t show up in your search results.
5. To view the list of sites/domains you’ve blocked from your searches simply click the Personal Blocklist button in your browser. It’s also from here that you can edit or remove sites from your list.
6. When you search Google and a site would have been displayed if you hadn’t previously opted to block it, you’ll get a notice at the bottom of the page.
7. When you click the ‘show’ link in that notice, the site(s) you’ve blocked will re-appear and be highlighted so they’re easy to find.
