To get a remote working with Ubuntu you need to first install LIRC. You can search with google and find the LIRC homepage which has a howto. Also on the ubuntu forums there are a lot of posts on this subject. I managed to get my snapstream RF remote to work with Mplayer, Xine, and as a mouse in Gnome.

The ubuntu version isn't running well.... I can't add a new folder inside those media center. I need to index the NTFS drives(DATA) first to play the music and they're no options to add a new watch folder. And do you any idea what's the gear icon for?? i cannot click it..
