It can take a couple of minutes to complete, but not to the point where you’ll get bored.
- The second scan will only take a few seconds.
- Once both scans have completed you’ll be presented with a list of drivers on your system that have updates available. As indicated by the screenshot below, DriverScanner 2009 found updated drivers for my monitor, mouse and sound card.
If you haven’t purchased RegistryBooster 2009 yet, click the Register now button in the bottom left corner of the window to do so. If you have purchased it, skip down to step #7 below.
- Click the Purchase online button.
- Once you’ve completed the online purchase process (which is very painless) – enter your serial number in the space provided and then click the Activate now button.
- Click OK after successfully registering DriverScanner 2009.
- Now, before you download and install any driver updates, it’s a very good idea to backup your existing drivers first. Though the chances are that you won’t need a backup, if something does go wrong, you’ll be really happy to have it. Attempting to recover from an improperly installed or corrupted driver can be a real hassle. So. Select the Backup tab of DriverScanner 2009. Make sure that the Perform a complete backup of all your drivers box is checked and then click the Backup selected button.
- It’s at this point I’d suggest grabbing a cup of coffee. Backing up the drivers can take quite a while, and there’s a very good chance that it will appear as though DriverScanner 2009 has completely stalled or frozen. It hasn’t. Just give it time. Maybe play a game of Solitaire.
- Once the backup has finished, you should get a Your drivers have been backed up successfully message.
- Now select the Driver scan tab. Before you begin downloading and installing new drivers, check the Level for each one. The levels are: Safe to install, Moderate and Risky. If DriverScanner 2009 determined that any of your updatable drivers are Moderate or Risky (Risky in particular) – you may not want to update them. At the very least, you’ll absolutely, without question, want to make sure you have a full driver backup created first.
If all of your drivers are set to the Safe to install level (as indicated in the screenshot below), click the Download all button. If some are labeled Moderate or Risky, and you don’t want to chance a problem, click the Download driver button next to each one labeled Safe to install.
- Generally, drivers aren’t large files, so the downloads shouldn’t take very long. The downloaded percentage will display as each one downloads.
- After all of the drivers have been downloaded, an Install driver button will appear next to each one. Click one of them.
- Initially a ‘warning’ message will pop-up reminding you that you should backup your drivers first. Since you’ve already done that (right?!) – click the Install driver button.
- And now the driver will install. Usually, you won’t even notice that anything is happening, other than the “installing” message displayed in DriverScanner 2009. Note: this isn’t always the case, as outlined in step #18 below.
- After the driver has been installed, you’ll see the status has changed to Up to date. Repeat the previous 3 steps to install each additional driver.
- With some drivers, when you click the Install driver button, another window will pop up.
- That means the driver has its own installation package, and you’ll have to follow the steps to install it. Generally it’s just a case of clicking ‘Next’ a bunch of times.
- Once all of your device drivers have been updated, select the Overview tab. You should see the message All drivers are UP TO DATE in the left pane.
- Should the need arise, or you notice that the hardware that had device drivers updated isn’t behaving correctly (sound doesn’t work after updating the sound card drivers etc) – select the Restore tab. Select the most recent backup if you have more than one, click Next and follow the on-screen instructions. This will revert your drivers to the previous (working) versions.
- Finally, select the Settings tab. From here you can adjust the DriverScanner 2009 options. The defaults are fine, but I prefer to have programs always close when I click the “X” – so I changed that setting.
- That’s it, you’re done! I’d suggest running DriverScanner 2009 once a month or so. You won’t always have updates for your drivers, but it’s good to have the latest installed as quickly as possible.
