How to Take a Screenshot of Your Samsung Galaxy Tab A

Updated: This brief guide will explain how to take a screenshot on your Samsung Galaxy Tab A the easy way!

There are two methods, the easy way, and the very-difficult-to-time-properly way.

The Easy Way

  1. Tap the Android Settings button.
  2. the android settings button

  3. Locate the section titled Device and then tap the Motions and gestures entry.
  4. Android Device Settings section

  5. Make sure that Palm swipe to capture is selected (has a check mark).

Now, simply put the side of your hand (the side of your palm) on the right side of your Galaxy screen, and ‘swipe’ it across to the other side. Ta-da! You’ll hear the camera “snapping” noise, and an animation indicating the screenshot was taken and saved.

  6. Swipe Gestures for Android

  7. You can find the image file/screenshot in the Screenshots folder of your Gallery App. The Screenshots folder won’t exist until you successfully take your first screenshot.

The Hard Way

For the Samsung Galaxy Tab A, to take a screenshot you’ll need to press the Power button and the Volume Down buttons at the same time.

As you can see in the image below, the Power button is located on the right side of your tablet, at the top (although the photo was taken of the tablet in a horizontal position). The Volume Down button is the “lower” part of the large Volume button, which is directly below the Power button.

Here’s the problem – it’s frustratingly hard to “time” properly. You’ll be turning the volume down and turning off the screen constantly, before you get the screenshot.

When you do finally get it, you can find the image file/screenshot in the Screenshots folder of your Gallery App. The Screenshots folder won’t exist until you successfully take your first screenshot. Good luck!

Thanks a million Nick mate.. That power button and home button worked immediately.
    Cheers big ears!

  2. The only reason I know the power + volume works is that I was able to take a grand total of 2 screenshots that way – trying about a hundred times. You’re right, sliding across the screen works best :)

  3. it seems like the power button + volume down doesn’t work at all. The real simple way is to put the side of your hand down on one side of the screen in karate chop position, then slide it across the screen. The other way is the hold down the power and home buttons together for a couple seconds.
