Have you noticed that even though you’ve configured Windows 10 to use a specific app when opening a file, it still resets back to one of the default Microsoft programs? This tool will stop that from happening.

  1. Download the aptly named Stop Resetting My Apps from here. It doesn’t require any installation – you just double-click the downloaded file to run it.

  2. click to enlarge

  3. Now just click the app icon you don’t want to use as the default. For example, if the Photos app opens when you double-click an image file, and that’s not the behaviour you want – click the Photos button. A “red hand” will appear over the icon, indicating that it will stop being reset as the default app.
  4. That’s it! You can exit out of the app after you’ve made your selections. The apps will continue to work, they just won’t be set as a default from now on.
