This step by step guide will show you how to compose a tweet and then schedule it to be sent at a later time or date.

Overview

The steps to schedule a tweet are slightly different depending on the device you’re using. Fortunately, we’ve got you covered regardless as to whether you’re using a mobile device (iPhone, Android, iPad etc) or a desktop/laptop (Windows, macOS, Linux etc).

Schedule a Tweet Using a Mobile Device (Android/iOS)

Long story short: use the “mobile web” version of Twitter. That means instead of using the Twitter app to schedule a tweet, you use Twitter via the web browser on your phone or tablet. Here’s how –

Open the web browser on your phone or tablet (Safari, Chrome etc) and open the page https://mobile.twitter.com. Sign in with your Twitter username and password. Once you’ve signed in, tap the “Compose Tweet” button.

Compose your tweet the same way you always do – attach a photo or video if you’d like – everything you’d normally do. Instead of tapping the Tweet button, locate and tap the Schedule icon/button which is found towards the bottom of the ‘compose tweet’ box (see screenshot below).

Now choose the date and time that you’d like the tweet to be automatically sent. When you’ve made your selections, tap the Confirm button.

The Tweet button will now switch to say Schedule instead. Tap it.

You’ll see a little confirmation notification letting you know the tweet has been scheduled. You can now close out of the browser if you’d like – you don’t need to keep it open for the tweet to be sent later.

If you ever want to see a list of your scheduled tweets, go back to the compose window and look for the link titled Unsent Tweets (Note: you will not have an Unsent Tweets link if you don’t have any currently scheduled tweets or tweets that have been saved as drafts).

Select the Scheduled tab and from here you’ll find a list of all the tweets you currently have scheduled to send at a later time/date.

That’s it!

Schedule a Tweet Using a Desktop or Laptop (Windows/macOS/Linux)

Head over to twitter.com in your favorite web browser and sign in. Click the large Tweet button.

Compose your tweet the same way you always do – attach a photo or video if you’d like – everything you’d normally do. Instead of tapping the Tweet button, locate and tap the Schedule icon/button which is found towards the bottom of the ‘compose tweet’ box (see screenshot below).

Enter in the required info in the Date and Time sections and then click the Confirm button.

Finally, click the Schedule button.

That’s it! Your tweet will be sent at the time you specified back in step #3 and you don’t need to keep Twitter or your browser open, it’s all taken care of. If you ever want to review your scheduled tweets, compose a new tweet and look for the Unsent Tweets link – which will only appear if you have scheduled or tweet drafts saved.

Select the Scheduled tab to see your scheduled tweets.

That’s it!

This short guide will show you how you can turn Chrome into a web server that can be accessed across your network and even the Internet.

Using a small, free extension you can turn Chrome from a web browser into a web browser and server. It’s super helpful for web development and perhaps the easiest and fastest way to get a web server up and running. Although it’s not going to replace a full fledged server with a database, PHP etc, it does have quite a few features – which you can read about here.

One of the particularly helpful features is that this works in Windows, macOS, Linux, Chrome OS – any operating system that Chrome works with.

Start by heading over to the Chrome Web Server extension page on the Chrome Web Store. Install it as you would any other extension by clicking the Add to Chrome button.

Launch Web Server from your list of Chrome Apps (enter chrome://apps in the Chrome address bar to get the full list).

The web server will instantly start and a window will appear with a bunch of options. The first thing you’ll need to do is specify a web directory – the place where all of the html and related files you want to use with your web server are stored. To do so, click the CHOOSE FOLDER button.

Navigate to the folder that contains the files that make up your web site, select it and click the Select Folder button.

Now review the Options and make any changes you see fit. Then click the Show Advanced Options link.

Again, make any changes you see fit. As you’d expect, you can of course change these at any point in the future.

You can view your web site by visiting the URL http://localhost:8887 or http://127.0.0.1:8887

If you enabled the Accessible on local network option you’ll be able to access the web server from other computers/devices on your network by entering its IP address followed by :8887 (the default port). For help determining your IP address, see this guide for Windows 10, or this one for older versions of Windows, or this one for macOS.

That’s it! To stop the web server, just close its window.

If you want to run a much more advanced web server on your Windows PC, we have a guide that explains how to easily install WordPress in Windows.

This guide will show you how to use a browser add-on to completely change the way you experience Facebook by allowing you to remove Sponsored ads, App & Game requests, Stories & much more.

F.B. Purity is a browser add-on that lets you customize your Facebook wall, profile and much more. It’s been around for ages and is considered trustworthy and safe to use. It’s also very frequently updated, so if a featured stops working because Facebook changed something, the F.B. Purity team update the add-on quickly to resolve any problems.

Best of all, it’s available for every major desktop browser, including: Chrome (and Chrome-based browsers like Vivaldi), Firefox, Microsoft Edge, Safari and Opera. Click on the link that represents your browser to install it, or visit the F.B. Purity installation page and install it from there. In most cases it’s as easy as clicking a button and following a couple of steps. Safari is a bit more involved, but really you just need to install another add-on first.

Proceed with step #1 once you have F.B. Purity installed.

Head over to facebook.com. The first time you visit Facebook after installing F.B. Purity you’ll be greeted with a welcome message. Click the “X” in the upper-right corner to close the message.

One thing you’ll probably notice right away is the new “FBP” button in the main toolbar. This is your gateway to the F.B. Purity settings – give it a click.

There are a lot of settings and options. Don’t let this intimidate you, it’s all quite easy to understand and configure. As you can see, FBP blocks “Sponsored” posts (ads) and Game/App posts by default.

Close out of the FBP settings and take a look at your Facebook ‘wall’. You’ll see a new line right above the posts on your wall titled F.B. Purity hid:. This is where FBP lets you know how many items it blocked (hid) and lets you review them. As illustrated in the screenshot below, FBP blocked 2 app related posts, and 2 ‘other’ posts. If your F.B. Purity hid: line doesn’t have any items in it, scroll down your wall – it will update as your wall expands. Once FBP has found something to hide, click the Show link.

FBP will show you exactly what it blocked. It will also include a small “WL” link in the upper-right corner of the posts it blocks. WL stands for “whitelist” – so if there is an app or game you do want to see on your wall, you can add it to your whitelist and FBP will no longer block/hide it.

Another large frequent ‘waste of space’ on your Facebook wall is the People You May Know section.

Go back to the F.B. Purity Settings by clicking the large FBP button in your toolbar. In the More Options section, place a check next to People You May Know

Now click the Save and Close button. This ensures the new setting is saved, and refreshes your Facebook page with those new settings applied. In this case, the People You May Know section will stop appearing on your wall.

The only way to really figure out everything F.B. Purity can do is to go through the options one by one. Start with the Newsfeed Filters section.

This guide will take you step by step through the process of installing, setting up and using the PortableApps app so that you can take your own software and settings with you everywhere you go.

Background

The PortableApps app lets you turn any thumb drive into a “portable PC” filled with your software, settings and bookmarks, documents, photos, audio/video files, and more. It allows you to make any PC feel like it’s your own, and doesn’t leave anything behind. It’s incredibly handy to be able to plug it into a friends computer, work or school computer, and have everything you need ready and waiting for you to use.

It works on every modern version of Windows, all the way back to Windows 2000. Perhaps best of all, it’s completely free and it’s even open source, so you can rest assured that there’s no malware or spyware hidden in the app.

Installing PortableApps on a USB Thumb Drive

To get started, plug in your USB thumb drive. You don’t have to delete everything on it, but it might be a good idea to copy the contents over to your hard drive just in case something goes wrong and your data gets erased during the PortableApps installation – which is unlikely, but things happen…

Visit the PortableApps download page and download the installer file. Once the download has completed, run the file.

After clicking Next a few times you’ll be asked what kind of installation you want. Select New Install and then click the Next button.

Choose Portable – install to a portable device and click Next

Select the drive that represents your USB thumb drive and then click Next

At this point you’ll be presented with a confirmation screen. Make sure the right drive has been selected and then click the Install button.

Just sit back and wait while the app installs itself onto your thumb drive. This process doesn’t take very long.

Finally, make sure there’s a check in the box labelled Run PortableApps.com Platform and then click the Finish button.

Setting Up and Using PortableApps

When PortableApps opens for the first time it displays the “About” screen. Close it by clicking the Close button.

The PortableApps app itself will be displayed in the bottom right corner of your desktop. To get started adding software to it, click the Apps button.

Select the Get More Apps… option and then the By Category option.

Give PortableApps time to load all of the software that it offers. This can take a minute or two so just let it do its thing.

Eventually a window will appear with a big list of all the software that works with PortableApps out of the box. Go through the list and place a check in the box next to each app you want to install to your thumb drive.

Click the Next button after you’ve made your selections.

Now PortableApps will download and install everything you just selected. This process can take quite a while, and unfortunately you can’t just leave it and come back later. Many of the Apps require you to click “Accept” to a Terms of Service. The good news is that you only have to go through this process once. Open Minesweeper or something to help kill the time.

Once everything has completed, click the Finish button.

Now the PortableApps app will have a list of all the software available on your thumb drive. Click one of the apps…

… and it’ll open up, exactly the same as if it was installed on the hard drive of the computer you’re using.

PortableApps also includes shortcuts to folders that it has created for you on the thumb drive. Click the Documents button.

Windows Explorer will open and display the contents of that Documents folder – which is on your thumb drive. This is a great place to store all of the files you want to take with you.

One last thing you may want to check out before you’re done – click the Options button.

Check out each tab/section and make any changes you see fit.

The Themes tab contains a series of themes or “skins” that PortableApps can use. I didn’t love the default one, but I found a great one to use in this list. Select one of them and then click OK to apply the change.

Keep trying the themes until you find one you like.

Finally – when you want to use this on another PC just plug in your thumb drive and navigate to it using Windows Explorer. Double-click Start.exe to launch PortableApps.

Remember that when you set up the apps on your thumb drive, the settings for those apps are stored on the thumb drive itself. So you can take your drive to use on another PC, and everything will ready to go. If you use Thunderbird to check your email through PortableApps, you may want to set it to leave mail on the server, so that your email is available to your “main” mail app as well.

If you purchased a MacBook, MacBook Air or MacBook Pro with a smaller SSD hard drive, you may want to consider uninstalling some of the Apps that come pre-loaded with your laptop. For example, I’ve never used Garageband in my life – uninstalling it is an easy way to reclaim 1.44 gigabytes of drive space. If you’re using Office 365, LibreOffice or OpenOffice, you can also reclaim some space by uninstalling Numbers, Keynote and Pages. Finally, if you aren’t planning on doing any video work with iMovie – it’s a whopping 2.82 gigabytes that could be reclaimed.

Don’t forget – all of the above mentioned Apps can be downloaded and reinstalled for free via the App Store at any point in time.

Garageband – 1.44GB
Numbers – 427MB
Pages – 508MB
Keynote – 682MB
iMovie – 2.82GB

Have you grown a bit tired of having to click “OK” or “I Accept” on all those website banners that explain they use cookies? Us too. Fortunately, there’s a way to set your browser to stop showing those cookie notices.

If you’re using Chrome, click here for the steps. If you’re using Firefox, click here.

Stop Cookie Notices in Chrome

Head over to the “I Don’t Care About Cookies” page on the Chrome Web Store. Click the Add to Chrome button to install the extension.

Once the installation has completed, click the new “cookie” icon in your Chrome Toolbar and select Settings

Click the ‘pull-down’ menu to expand all of the options.

Choose your cookie preference. If you’re unsure, the default of I allow only cookies needed for the website to work properly is perfectly fine.

At this point you’re done – there’s nothing else to configure. Since this is the type of Chrome extension that you don’t need to interact with, you may want to ‘hide’ it from your Toolbar so that it’s out of the way. To do so, right-click the “cookie” icon and select Hide in Chrome Menu

This will place it at the top of the Chrome Menu with any other extension icons you may have opted to hide.

From now on those cookie messages that websites display will be hidden from view and you won’t have to waste time clicking them.

Stop Cookie Notices in Firefox

Head over to the “I Don’t Care About Cookies” page for Firefox Addons and click the + Add to Firefox button.

When prompted, click Add

After the installation has completed, click the Okay, Got It button.

To configure the addon, click the new “cookie” icon and select Settings

Click the drop-down menu and select your preferred option. If you’re unsure, the default of I allow only cookies needed for the website to work properly is perfectly fine.

Since this is an addon that you don’t need to interact with, you may want to hide it from the Firefox Toolbar. To do so, right-click click the ‘cookie’ icon and select Remove From Toolbar. This won’t actually remove the addon, just hide it from the Toolbar.

Should you ever need to access it, just click the Firefox Open menu button from the upper-right corner and select Add-ons from the menu.

From now on those cookie messages that websites display will be hidden from view and you won’t have to waste time clicking them.

Head over to the Google Tone extension page and click the large Add to Chrome button. Make sure to do this on each of the computers you want to be able to send and receive URLs to and from.

When prompted click the Add extension button.

Now let’s test it with another computer listening – make sure Google Tone is enabled on the other computer, navigate to a page you want to send to the other computer – and click the blue horn icon again. A notification should appear on the other computer and when you click it, the shared page will open.

This step by step guide will show you how to configure your Chrome web browser so that information on the weather is always right at hand.

While researching this tutorial I had a couple of requirements in mind. I want the current temperature to be displayed inside of Chrome without having to click or do anything, but I want it to be subtle and ‘fit in’ with the overall look and feel of the browser. Another requirement was to be able to get additional and more detailed information about the weather within a click or two at most.

The only realistic solution was to use an Extension for Chrome. After installing and trying out over 20 weather related extensions, it became very clear – only two of them fit my criteria, and most were borderline unusable.

The two weather Extensions for Chrome that I recommend are Forecastfox and Opalo Weather. Keep reading for a quick overview with details on how to configure and use both of them.

Forecastfox

To install Forecastfox head over to its Chrome Extension page and click the Add to Chrome button.

When prompted, click the Add extension button.

Once the extension has successfully installed, it’ll automatically open a new tab in Chrome from which you can configure Forecastfox. There are a lot of options, but the most important one is which location you want to monitor (although you can configure multiple locations, let’s start by setting one). Enter the city, zip code or a nearby place of interest in the space provided.

The Forecastfox icon will now display the temperature of the location you just specified.

If you hover your cursor over the icon (don’t click it) a more detailed weather description will appear. All of the information contained in this little window is customizable via the Settings.

If you click the Forecastfox icon an even more detailed window will appear, with pretty colours and a fancy map (again, all of which are customizable via the Settings).

Oplao weather

To install Oplao weather head over to its Chrome Extension page and click the Add to Chrome button.

When prompted, click the Add extension button.

After the extension has successfully installed a small confirmation window will appear below the newly installed icon for Oplao weather. Click that icon.

Locate the Options button from the bottom right corner of the weather pop-up screen and click it.

From here you’ll want to add the city/location (or the first of several) where you want to monitor the weather. Click inside the ‘blank box’ located on the WEATHER OPTIONS window (see screenshot below).

Start to type the name of the location and it should display a list of cities/places. Select the one you want to monitor by clicking on it once.

Repeat the above step if you want to add more than one location. When you’re done, select the one you want to have the Oplao weather icon to display in your Chrome toolbar (ie. the one that you’ll be able to check at a glance with no clicking involved) and click the SET AS DEFAULT button.

Now whenever you want to know what the temperature outside is you can just glance at your Oplao weather icon.

When you click the icon you’re presented with a detailed overview of the weather. If you configured Oplao weather to monitor more than one location, use the ‘left’ and ‘right’ arrow buttons to switch between places.

Using a small and fantastic little extension/add-on for your browser, you can watch your YouTube videos in a separate, uncluttered and resizable pop-up window. Plus, there are a slew of other features included with the extension.

If you’re a power YouTube user, the Iridium extension is a must. We’re going to focus on the feature that allows you to watch a video in a separate window, but it’s absolutely worth reviewing the full list of features to get an idea of what Iridium can do.

To install Iridium simply head to the Google Chrome Store extension page for Iridium or the Firefox Add-on page for Iridium and install it as you would any other extension/add-on.

Once the installation has completed, a new icon will appear in your browser (see screenshot below). Give it a click.

A new tab will open in your browser and display all of the Iridium settings. Towards the bottom of the General settings panel you’ll see a section titled Thumbnails. Confirm that Enable player pop-up is enabled and then close out of this tab (you can come back to check out all of the other settings/features in a bit).

Now head over to YouTube. The first time you open the site after installing Iridium you’ll be presented with a ‘thank you for installing’ screen. Click the close button to continue. Note: after you see how well this works and review the other features that it comes with, do at least consider donating to the developer.

Locate a video – any video, and hover your cursor its thumbnail. In the bottom-right corner of the thumbnail a small icon that looks like two squares on top of each other will appear (see screenshot below). Click it.

Ta-da! A small window will appear with your video playing inside of it. This browser window doesn’t have any toolbars, status bars or buttons – just the video. And it’s completely resizable, just click and drag a corner as you would any other window.

If you’re already watching a video and you want to have it ‘pop-out’ you can do that too. Iridium adds a series of ‘new’ buttons below each video on YouTube. Locate that same “two squares on top of each other” icon and click it to switch to the pop-out player.

Now that you’re able to watch YouTube content in a separate window, make sure to check out the rest of Iridiums features.

This guide will take you step by step through the process of using SSH from within the Google Chrome web browser.

Please note: the screenshots used in this guide are from Chrome on a Mac – the steps and actual ‘screen content’ will be identical if you’re using Windows, Linux or Chrome OS.

As with many of the amazing things you can do using Google Chrome, this one is accomplished via an extension, specifically the very descriptively named Secure Shell Extension. It installs as any other Chrome extension – just click the Add to Chrome button on the extension home page.

Once the installation has completed, click the new Secure Shell Extension icon from the Chrome Menu.

A small window will appear – click the Connection Dialog link.

A new browser window will appear. Here you go! You can use the up/down and left/right arrows on your keyboard to navigate to each field – or your mouse.

After you’ve filled in each field (or at least these 3: username@hostname or free form text, username and hostname) hit the enter key on your keyboard (or click the [ENTER] Connect button)

The first time you use Secure Shell Extension you’ll be asked if you’d like to open future SSL links using the Secure Shell Extension extension. If you do, click Allow – otherwise Block (which won’t really block anything, it’ll just leave whatever your current default App for opening SSL links as the default).

Now you’ll be connected to the SSL server and be prompted with a request for your password. At this point you’ll be using a fully functional Terminal.

After you’re done and disconnect, you can reconnect by selecting that entry in the Secure Shell Extension menu.

After writing a quick overview of Vivaldi’s Web Panels, we figured it was only fair to share a few of our favourite sites to use as Web Panels :)

We’ll start it off with a few sites that fall into the ‘social media’ category.

Twitter

Twitter is probably the most obvious use for a Web Panel, so let’s get it out of the way as the first one.

URL to add: https://mobile.twitter.com/home

LinkedIn

If you actually use LinkedIn, it works quite well within a Web Panel.

URL to add: https://www.linkedin.com/feed/

Instagram

Neat way to scroll through your Instagram feed. You can view, like and comment on posts – for “Stories” you’ll need to use the App or web based version of Instagram.

URL to add: https://www.instagram.com

Audio/Video

YouTube

Works remarkably well as a Web Panel, I use it to keep track of my most recent subscriptions and will often have something playing in a YouTube Web Panel while I’m composing emails etc.

URL to add: https://www.youtube.com/feed/subscriptions

Last.FM

One of the few music sites that functions within a Web Panel.

Google News

Diply

While looking for interesting sites to use as Web Panels, I came across Diply. I’d never heard of it and as far as I can tell had never viewed a page on that site. Did you know it’s the 29th most popular site in the US (according to Alexa).

Unfortunately These Don’t Work

Or perhaps a better ‘heading’ should be “I Can’t Figure Out How to Get These To Work”. If you can, please share the details via a comment below.

Spotify
Wants you to install the mobile App.

Feedly
The ‘sidebar’ that Feedly utilizes takes up too much screen real-estate to be practical in a Web Panel.

Pandora
Wants you to install the mobile App.

Messenger.com
Rumor has it this worked at one point but doesn’t now (?). If you’ve figured out a way to use Messenger.com within a Web Panel please share the URL to add in the comments below. Thanks!

Google Chrome Web Store
I’m not sure how practical this would be to use as a Web Panel, but I’ll never know since it doesn’t work at all.

This quick overview will explain how to use the amazing Web Panel feature that’s included with the web browser Vivaldi.

Alright, so what is a Web Panel? It’s a customizable ‘tab’ that allows you to quickly access your favourite sites right from within the Vivaldi side Panel.

By default, the Panel resides on the left side of your browser window. If you’re at all like me, that just doesn’t feel proper. To change sides just open the Vivaldi Preferences and select Panel from the left column. Change the Panel Position from Left Side to Right Side.

To add a Web Panel, just navigate to the page you want to add and then click the “plus sign” ( + ) icon from within the Panel itself.

Vivaldi will work its magic and add that site as a button/icon in your Panel. From now on, when you select that icon Vivaldi will open the Panel if it isn’t already, and load that page within the Panel.

So when do you use a Web Panel vs. a regular bookmark? Almost whenever you want, I suppose. You’ll find that some sites flat out do not work in a Web Panel, and some won’t render or display correctly. Others just aren’t practical to use in a window with less horizontal space. However, the ones that do work ‘properly’ are often perfectly suited for a Web Panel. Whether it’s something you want to passively keep an eye on or something you want to view/use quickly and then close, Web Panels are often the solution.

No, we wouldn’t leave you without some suggestions, that’d be rude :) We’ve compiled a list of 20 sites that work very well as Web Panels, hope it helps!
