Since the Chromecast was introduced, we’ve all been waiting for VLC to support it. Now with version 3, it finally does.
At this time, you’ll need to manually download and update the App via the VLC website – the built-in ‘check for updates’ feature will not recognize version 3.0 as the latest.
Once you have the latest version installed, open any media file in VLC. Select Playback from the main menu, then Renderer, and finally select your Chromecast device.

That’s it! Now you can stream .mkv, .flac and all the other popular but unsupported file types to your Chromecast! :)
